RNC says signs point to 'significant gains' for GOP in elections
By Michael O'Brien - 06/25/10 06:00 AM ET
Republicans are "poised to make significant gains" in this fall's elections, the Republican National Committee's (RNC) political director told party members.

Pointing to the latest results of the NBC/Wall Street Journal survey in particular, RNC political director Gentry Collins in a memo to members of the committee on Thursday wrote that trendlines pointed toward Republican victories.

"The polling demonstrates the vulnerability of Democrats in this mid-term election cycle and how our Party is poised to make significant gains this November," Collins said.

The memo highlighted in particular President Barack Obama's growing disapproval rating, as well as the polls' increasingly upside-down number on the traditional "right track/wrong track" measure. The RNC also touted numbers that showed a slight voter preference for a Republican-controlled Congress, and an even stronger resonance for GOP messaging on deficits and spending.

The overwhelming "concensus" - if it can be believed, is that of an "anti-incumbency" movement this November.  That means, Democrats AND Republicans may be up for new careers after 1/1.  Given the circumstances of the two party system, it's LIKELY that the Republicans will gain seats, but not guaranteed.  The worst thing, IMHO, that they can do is get too cocky.  It's theirs (Republicans) to lose, as I see it - but BOTH parties stand to lose in this election. Hopefully, they'll both realize that what's happening today is NOT the will of a majority of voters.

I've got no say in either party, but I would like to see a more balanced federal govt.  One party rule is not working, that was evident under Bush, and now Obama.

Hell, the electorate just voted the dems in and the reps out in the last election cycle. This election cycle, the electorate will vote the reps back in and the dems out! They will do this because they don't think that they have any other choice except for those endorsed by the two party system. And as far as I am concerned.....they are all the same. You can barely tell one from the other. Ideologies are gone, for the most part and power and greed has taken it's place.

What ever happened to opposing Bush's patriot act?? Obama extended it this year....with no reform. Ya know, the patriot act that they slipped through after 911? The one that was suppose to wort off foreign terrorists? The one that wasn't suppose to target american private citizens BUT could 'if they felt the need to' without a warrant.

The misnamed Patriot Act, presented to the public as an antiterrorism measure actually focused on American citizen rather than foreign terrorists. The definition of 'terrorism' for federal criminal purposes has greatly expanded. Did anyone know that a legitimate protest against the government could someday place an American under federal surveillance. And perhaps your internet use can be monitored without your knowledge and perhaps your internet provider can be forced to hand over user information to law enforcement without a warrant or subpoena. Free society?????

These tools are all at the government's fingertips and yet bare little or no relationship to fighting terrorism.  So ya got Bush(r) creating the beast and obama(d) supporting it. A free society? Bullcrap! Dems and reps....they are just a different side of the same coin. They may use different paint colors, but the picture is the same!!

Best way to get conservative politicians is to vote in the Republican primaries.

Rep. Scott Murphy was a newbee, and he turned out to be a Pelosi lap dog. Of course, Murphy did not run against an incumbent, but my point is that we should not vote against someone simple because they are an incumbent.

Nor should we vote for one just because they have an (R) next to their name! (although I wouldn't vote for a dem) When you are voting for the 'lesser of two evils' you are still voting for an evil one! In that case, I don't cast a vote for either!

I agree Bumble there are a few in Congress with an R after their names that need to be given their pink slips because they're nothing but RINO's.
