You seem to value "people magazine", I'd rather get my news from a 'news source': ABC NEWS
"911 Tapes Reveal Richardson Timeline From Accident to Treatment"

ABC NEWS:
~On March 16 at approximately 12:45 p.m., the ski patrol at the Mont Tremblant ski resort in Quebec called 911 to report a possibly dangerous fall on the hill.

~PARAMEDICS responded (WITH AN AMBULANCE) but were turned away after Richardson, 45, who had taken a tumble on a beginner's slope, said she was fine.

~at 3 p.m., the resort called ANOTHER ambulance. It said Richardson was vomiting and had a severe headache.

I often ski at Gore Mt in NY, and have seen many people taken off the mountain... some treated at the care center, some taken away in an ambulance... much the same is true at Mt Tremblant in Canada.

Still hungry?

Was Natasha Richardson's death preventable?

Natasha Richardson, 45, daughter of Vanessa Redgrave, died on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Lennox Hospital in New York after a ski accident on Tuesday, March 16, 80 miles from Montreal taking a skiing lesson on a bunny slope. She initially turned down medical treatment but an hour later complained of a severe headache and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

Although she was only an hour ambulance ride away from Montreal, the worlds second largest French city, two days later she was taken to New York Lennox Hospital with emergency life saving surgery not having been done.

An autopsy of the actress Natasha Richardson on Thursday indicated that she died of a brain hemorrhage caused by “blunt impact” to her head, the chief medical examiner for New York City said. The official cause of death was an epidural hematoma.

Although she may have died in the United States if the accident would have happened, all the reports fail to recognize the deficiencies of Canadian Medicare that is available in nearly every city in America. Ms Richardson had her warning when the headache occurred one hour after the accident which normally alerts any physician to an impending catastrophic bleed requiring immediate burr holes in the scalp and possibly craniotomy. This was not done during the two days in Canada despite being within one hour via ambulance ride to hospitals in a world class French Canadian city

The news accounts focused on safety measures and helmets. These are excellent comments for the future of others. None seemed to be focused on what was really necessary to save her life after the accident. Perhaps no one wants to admit that we have the number one world class healthcare that half of the country thinks needs improving. However, they are talking about payment reform, not healthcare reform. Even though the World Medical Association rates America behind Columbia in care, we have never seen anyone flee American Care for that available in Columbia. The rating agencies never rate anyone without socialized medicine as having appropriate care. Hence, the falsely low standing of America noted in these prejudicial polls.

Universal availability of care saves more lives than universal access. American has universally available care. Canada has universal access to a waiting list. Care may never be rendered. In this case it was tragic.

Canadian Medicare does not give timely access to healthcare, it only gives access to a waiting list.

This message board seems to have more than it's share of "There's no cure for stupid".

What is it about 'facts' that scare you so?
Would you really rather be content with your 'opinions', instead of learning the 'facts'?
When facts are available, why ignore the facts in favor of someone's opinion.

I didn't invent the ABC facts, I just quoted them.

Chris
There are some factual problems with your last post

~Your last post seems to indicate that Richardson was NOT taken to Montreal...???

~"Although she was only an hour ambulance ride away from Montreal, the worlds second largest French city, two days later she was taken to New York Lennox Hospital with emergency life saving surgery not having been done."
*Richardson was in a Montreal hospital with well qualified neurosurgeons 6 hours after the accident.

Your entire post says nothing about Richardsons refusal of on site and follow up treatment...

I am running out of scoobie snacks here so once again:

She was never looked at by anybody other than the ski partrol, which i am sure is more than qualified to evaulate a head trauma, and perhaps she refused care because she just had a major head trauma.  Aside from that.  In my opinion, once she was in an ambulance the canadian healthcare system failed this patient.  No one, not even the top neurosurgeon in the world can predict the outcome in traumas like this.  But it seems that this case exposed flaws in Canadas system.  Lack of doctors and lack supporting infrastructure cost this poor girl a chance at recovery.

She was sent to two different hospitals and when she finally made it to montreal they never even tried to save her life.  Surgery was not performed.  They sent her to Manhattan at which point it was to late.  A tragedy on all accounts.  I will take the american model over canadas system any day.  God bless america, have a good day.

Last time I went to the ER, I bumped into a pile of corpses (not medical corpsemen) of poor people on the way out. Good thing I am rich, so I could get treatment while all the minorities writhed in agony on the floor, with nurses and doctors stepping on their fingers. You liberals just LOVE to lie. Can you even open your fricking mouths without telling a lie? Do you stay up all night dreaming up the lies? Do you have a giant book of lies to draw from? When you create lies, do you do it in the can, with a man, or without a plan? when you make your lies up, do you draw them from a cup? How many lies can you tell, before the general public figures out they smell?

democrap= traitor=america hater= L I A R S

GB, you seem to be misinformed...

American emergency rooms are required to treat any person arriving with a 'life threatening condition" weather they have insurance or not.
BUT
If they have no insurance and are not 'life threatening" the ER has no obligation to treat them.

Doctors decided at 6 p.m. that Richardson should be rushed to Montreal's Sacre-Coeur Hospital, a Level 1 trauma center with a team of neurosurgeons on staff. That trip by ambulance took a little less than 45 minutes.

By the time Richardson had arrived, her condition had deteriorated significantly. According to the Globe and Mail, a neurologist was overheard saying that Richardson's pupils were unresponsive.

"That is an early sign you are losing your brain stem reflexes, and early sign of brain death," Ghajar told

Thats great healthcare right there, shine a light in her eyes and then wipe your hands of the situation by sending her to another hospital.  If my wife was in that position I would have grabbed my Sears Craftsman 18volt drill and put a hole in her head myself to try something other than just put a tube down her throat and send her to a third hospital.  I have seen Doogie Howser do it, how hard can it be to TRY SOMETHING.

Healthcare Rationing?
Lack of a qualified surgeon?

These are the problems that arise with canadas healthcare system

(BTW... They usually don't do "life saving surgery" on Brain Dead Patients.)

Keep telling yourself Obamacare is a good thing and that people want it. Stop reading the polls they might indicate otherwise. Foreigners (and not just the evil rich) flock to our medical system because it is the best in the world. Try the Cuban system since that is more politically correct.

Yeah, let's go to Bethesda House and talk to the vets there-lol. Once built they couldn't find enough homeless in the County to use it. Doubt there is even one vet there. No problemo their "leader" is but at the City Hall rail screaming for more tax money. Don't let reality get in the way of your liberal myths.
