There are many, many other ways to harvest electricity which have been ignored for centuries here. For example: Which way does the water flow in a hydroelectric plant? Downwards of course. Which way does your wastewater flow to the sewer plant?
...creative thinking overcomes most obstacles when it comes to how we implement technology to generate electricity. Unfortunately most of the good ideas run into bureaucratic wrangling, indifference or outward hostility. PV solar should be installed on a flat roof so as to allow the correct orientation of the cells to the S-SW. Most homes are not (foolishly) built with a southern orientation. And most homes don't have flat roofs. Who has flat roofs? Business and government buildings. Can a business or government get an incentive to install PV cells in NY state, aor can a business or government get to "spin the meter backwards" to sell the electricity generated back into the grid? No. Only residences can. Despite proposals to allow this for many years, our backwards state government, in cahoots with the power company, will not move on this. if government can't "help" then they certainly shouldn't be allowed to "hurt" matters. But they often do. Every business and gov building in the state needs a PV solar and/or windmill generator of sorts. You want to cut fossil fuel electricity use in half in 5 years? There it is. How can our esteemed legislators "help?" Do this in 50 states, and see what happens. |
