Are school lunches a national security threat? Published - Apr 20 2010 05:41AM EST By MARY CLARE JALONICK - Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON— A group of retired military officers says high-calorie school lunches are threatening national security.
A study by the group Mission: Readiness finds that school lunches are making American kids so fat that fewer of them can meet the military's physical fitness standards. That, in turn, is putting recruitment in jeopardy.
A report from the group, being released Tuesday, says that 27 percent of Americans ages 17 to 24 are too overweight to join the military.
One of the officers, retired Navy Rear Admiral James Barnett Jr., says many young Americans are simply too fat to fight.
The officers are pushing for passage of a wide-ranging nutrition bill that aims to make the nation's school lunches healthier.
Hmmmmm.....during vietnam war, they took ANY 'BODY'. They threw them in boot camp and shaped their a$$es up. I know this for a fact!! Everybody walked out of boot camp in the best shape they ever were or will be in. Guess the military don't want that job anymore. Pathetic!

That's BS. My brother went into the Air Force in 1965. He was extremely THIN. When he came home from boot camp he had gained 15 pounds and looked great. I believe the adage is that if you need to gain weight there you will and if you need to lose weight you will.
Ya think? If not, certainly qualified with this bunch.

Hmm one look at the processed food fed to our children is enough to know that school lunches are bad for kids. When french fries are considered a vegetable and the ingredient list to a chicken nugget is 10 lines of text... then it is not good for you.
