With the help of local Reps. Paul Tonko and Scott Murphy, President Obama was able to take advantage of his Democratic majority in both houses of Congress to accomplish what no other president has — push through a budget-busting health insurance agenda that the vast majority of Americans do not want and cannot afford. With a simple up-or-down vote (and a few twisted arms and expensive plane rides), the administration was able to spend another trillion of our money against our will. Now they are declaring victory and celebrating with parties and champagne, but victory over whom? The young people who now have to buy insurance at disproportionately high rates to subsidize their parent’s insurance? The children who will have no options to create their own entitlement programs when they are older because they will be paying for ours? Congress should let us keep more of our money so we can be charitable and help those who truly need it; but that would not allow for grandstanding or photo opts. Our local churches and charities could do much more with much less than a behemoth like ACORN could ever do. If our representatives care more about their Washington leadership than they do for the people in their district, we should send them packing.
This is not a good year for politicians who thwarted the will of the people, especially those who voted for Obamacare. This also includes Schumer and Gillibrand. Let's send them all packing.
