I was talking to this older gentleman who's wife developed a lung disease that required a lung transplant. He had private insurance and owned some farm land. They received a call from a Boston Hospital who said they had a match for his wife and that she had to get to Boston in 2 hours. This gentleman called Albany Med. asking for transport services with their medical helicopter. He was told that it would cost $7200.00 that needed to be paid upfront. If he didn't have the money, he would have to place his property up for security. Needless to say, they missed the 2 hour window. She never received the transplant.
Through this process, his wife was admitted to Sunnyview. They met a woman who was there for rehabilitation following her lung transplant that she received in Boston. She was flown to Boston for this lung transplant. Medicaid paid for her transportation, surgery and a motel room for her husband.
If this information is accurate, as told to me, it makes me wonder how any private insurance company can compete with government paid insurance.
His wife died before she was able to receive her transplant due to complications.

I recently heard a caller to a talk show say that Medicare denied his WWII veteran dad surgery for his hearing. So many strories, but the bottom line is that people who live in countries with socialized medicine are coming to the U.S. for treatments; we are not going there. Why is that?
As a new "rv'er", and a caregiver for my wife, Good Sam Club recommended a MASA membership - it gets her to any doctor/hospital in the country, by air - gets me a flight with her, and gets my vehicle delivered TO me, wherever we need to be. For about a buck a day, it seemed like a great investment.
medicare refuses ALOT......it wont fail....the government will print more money and grow it....like a big fat cancer...it will become a podium puck for fodder at all elections and the poor poor pathetic sheeple will follow it to the edge of the cliff.......
and just like the school system was bumped up, pumped up and trumped up for the baby boom of past and is now a giant relic with union/legislative ramparts and inefficient as all hell....so will the evolution of medicare become.......
pay attention to the 'babies' we feed.......
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

Medicare is run by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. While CMS operates the Medicare program, the Social Security Administration determines Medicare eligibility. The rules for Medicare are the same all over the country.
Medicare Part A is funded mostly by federal payroll taxes paid to Medicare by employers and employees.
Medicare Part B is funded by monthly premiums paid by people receiving Medicare Part B, plus a subsidy from the federal government.

Oversight, regulations, and subsidy do not equal running. If it did the US government would be running everything from pro sports to farms. As much as you extreme rightists want to this so, this is no where near Communist Russia.

Russia is NOT communist any more. The communist system collapsed in 1992!

That's why I said it's not Communist Russia....as in when it was Communist. I made no correlation to modern day Russia.
Yea....right! As usual you have no FACTS!

They are actually pursuing similar reform to what America just enacted. They were on the other side of the spectrum from America, in that the federal govt was the only controlling funding.
Really now???? And the russian mafia played what role in all of this?

Medicare is a national health insurance program for:
Most people 65 and older. Some younger people with disabilities. People with End-Stage Renal Disease (kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant). Medicare Advantage is Medicare's managed care program. If you join Medicare Advantage, you get all your care through an HMO or PPO that has a contract with Medicare.
The Federal Center for Medicare Services (CMS), not the California Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC), regulates Medicare Advantage plans. DMHC conducts initial licensure review and financial oversight on Medicare Advantage plans
