CAPITAL REGION Price Chopper, CDTA team up on bus discounts BY AMEERAH CETAWAYO Gazette Reporter Reach Gazette reporter Ameerah Cetawayo at 395-3040 or acetawayo@dailygazette.net.
Albany resident Chris Walsh plans to save almost $100 on the annual cost of his daily bus commute to Troy as part of a new partnership between Price Chopper and the Capital District Transportation Authority that expands the supermarket chain’s Fuel AdvantEdge program to include discounts on bus pass purchases. The three-month pilot program, called CDTA iRide AdvantEdge, began Tuesday and will run through May. There are 12 Price Chopper locations designated as redemption centers, where shoppers can redeem their points toward the 31 Day Rolling Swiper Pass, 10 Trip Pass and the STAR ticket coupon books. For every $50 spent on groceries at Price Chopper, the iRide program converts the fuel discount of 10 cents per gallon on up to 20 gallons to a $2 cash savings toward the purchase of a bus pass. Legally blind and unable to drive, Walsh takes two buses during his 40-minute commute to Troy during the week. He said he spends $50 to $75 a week on groceries from Price Chopper. ..............>>>>.............>>>>..............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00501&AppName=1
With Advantage, Price Chopper, CDTA go ‘green’ together
Re March 3 letter, “Price Chopper, CDTA team up on bus discounts”: Kudos to Price Chopper and the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA)! The very popular FuelAdvantEdge program has taken a turn toward the green side. Partnering with CDTA, Price Chopper is now offering the opportunity to earn credits on their Advantage Cards for discounts on bus passes. This program will encourage people to use public transportation, thereby reducing the number of cars on the road and the amount of carbon emissions going into the atmosphere. The Schenectady County Environmental Advisory Council (SCEAC) commends Price Chopper and CDTA for this innovative program. Price Chopper has already undertaken several other “green” projects in the past few years, including its new LEED-designed corporate headquarters in Schenectady. As a member of SCEAC and a frequent rider of CDTA buses, I hope that this threemonth pilot project will increase ridership and that CDTA IRide Advantage will become a permanent program in Schenectady County and the Capital Region. For more details on using your FuelAdvantEdge card for savings on CDTA bus passes, ask at any participating Price Chopper service desk or visit http://www.CDTA.org or http://www.pricechopper.com/bus.
