I could care less who is town clerk....as long as they are qualified for the job.

I agree - I feel the same way about all elected positions.  Some are more qualified than others.  THEN VOTE FOR THE DAMNED SEAT, BUMBLE!  You say 'as long as they're qualified' - can't your vote ensure that that happens?!

Clubhouse I don't think her actions have done anything to affect the taxpayer.  Her actions were well-intended not criminal.

If they took $1 out of the tax receipts from the town, they're criminal. In fact, if she did notarize exemptions for taxpayers, there's much more than $1 missing from town coffers.

Sorry to disagree, I always believed her to be an upstanding, "well intentioned" individual - she's crossed the line.

Clerks can be the breaking/making of a current town administration based on how 'quickly/slowly' they file things with other agencies.....a clerk can make an administration look very inept or really good...
there are alot of other things the clerk can do......

I say we get a NOBODY in there with a strong will and fortitude to ignore either party in control....and ignore the who's who in town........

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

I don't often agree with senders, but this time I think you are absolutely correct.

Why is it that people here seem to think that Eunice was either a criminal OR trying to be nice? If she did what she was accused of doing, it'd seem that she BOTH acted criminally AND was trying to be nice. But, just because she had piety at heart doesn't mean she is absolved from all criminal responsibility. Think about it, if piety absolved criminality MLK wouldn't have spent time in jail! Get over it she was a sweet woman who allowed her desire to be nice to prevent her from following the law. If it's true that people received a tax break because of it, it cost US all money. So, yeah, she was being nice, but if the allegations are true, she was nice to one individual (wait is someone an individual if they are deceased?) at the expense of the rest of us. So how nice was she really being?

Eunice's notary license was suddenly, and quietly, suspended until August. No DOS hearing...nothing.

Well isn't that what you wanted????  You have stood on your head to disgrace her.  You publicly chastised her and now you have posted it here.  Why not see if Rotterdam has some old stocks--we could place her in the stocks maybe in the park that is named for her.  Thank G-d you are the soul of discretion.

Not really a big deal, isn't Dawn right across the hall a Notary?

Not sure how this will affect filing of minutes, local laws, etc - but shouldn't be that big of a deal to walk across the hall

Wanted? I wanted her to stop improperly abusing her notary authority. I had private discussions with Eunice about this on at least
two occasions prior to the town meeting in which I addressed the issue. She defended her actions and said she would
do it again under the same circumstances...I told her THEN that what she did was wrong and illegal, that she should not have done
it, and that she should voluntarily surrender the license. I think I made a respectful and compassionate appeal to Eunice in that
meeting to not allow this to go any further...don't let it cloud her many years of public service...that she should take her rightful
place in local history with the legendary status she deserves.
I did not chastise her...I presented facts of her own making - proof of her improper use of that license. We don't even know the
extent of this fraud.
I did not ask Eunice to do what she did...she is responsible for her own actions.
You can advance your irrelevant arguments based in sympathy all day long, but none are affirmative defenses for what
she did.

Irrelevant is not the correct word Gadfly.  You spoke to her privately why in hopes of threatening her?  You compassionate appeal during the town meeting was condescending at best.  Fraud is a pretty harsh word don't you think?  You've been hanging around with the legendary MM too long and your good judgement has been clouded.  Again who appointed you judge and jury?  GP or TB?  Is your conscience so clear that you feel you can throw the first stone???  MT is right yet again.  People will just go across the hall to Dawn.  Eunice is going nowhere.  She will remain at the counter sans her notary stamp.  Once again in the scheme of things the Reps/Cons look impotent in this matter...at least for now.

It amazes me how in a liberal socialist's world, all if forgiven if it is one of their own. In fact, when one of their own is part of illegal behavior, they suddenly are portrayed as the VICTIM!

Irrelevant is the correct word...
I spoke with her at her request...in both cases it was her intent win my sympathy...threatening Eunice is not a thought I would
entertain...nobody appoints me to anything...and this is not an issue specific to any political party.
Fraud is what it is, whether you like the term or not...I believe DOS is the the judge and jury.
