Natural gas is a very clean for of energy too but nuclear power gives us much more bang for the buck.

The biggest way I supported McCain in the election was for his nuclear stance.  Obama has come around to nuclear slowly and I will be very happy if we get producing nuke plants again.

If we start building nuclear power plants it will provide much needed jobs to the construction trades and after the plant is built it also supplies jobs to those who will work there.

I installed 4 solar panels at home, which charge a bank of 6 deep cell batteries, from which I run an AC converter that powers 2 computers and a small refrigerator. Total savings from the power company (not National Greed) about $40 per month.

I also just installed a 4' panel on my RV which gives me enough juice to run a small LCD tv and an energy efficient computer (Acer Aspire) in the RV.

Total cost for the 5 panels, inverter and batteries, less than $400 - which I anticipate recovering in 2 years. Later this summer, I plan on investing in several more panels to supplement our homes hot water needs, jacuzzi included.

It can be done, if we each take some responsibility for our own rather than having govt mandating what we do, how we do it and at what cost.

And how long will it take for a nuclear power plant to 'leak'? I know, I know....they have been know to be safe. But before wedot this county with more nuke power plants, we better close these damn boarders. Let's not make it any easier for these muslim terrorists!

I actually think they are at their weakest point ever, the groups trying crap now are much less organized then the 1993 and 2001.  And their goals seem much lower as well.

I think the current plants in the country are 35 years old.  A friend of mine at Notre Dame who studies nuclear science (the Canadian that managed to register to vote in the US thanks to idiots at the DMV) says they are much more safe now and are really the best energy source for the buck.  I really like solar but it appears to really only be good in small scale settings.  Glad to hear it is working for you MB.

Coast Guard: Tar Balls Found Off Key West

The U.S. Coast Guard reported that 20 tar balls were found off Key West on Monday. The Florida Park Service during a shoreline survey found the balls that were about 3-to-8 inches in diameter.

ROBERT, La. -- With BP finally gaining some control over the amount of oil spewing into the Gulf of Mexico, scientists are increasingly worried that huge plumes of crude already spilled could get caught in a current that would carry the mess all the way to the Florida Keys and beyond, damaging coral reefs and killing wildlife.

Scientists said the oil will move into the so-called loop current soon if it hasn't already, though they could not say exactly when or how much there would be. Once it is in the loop, it could take 10 days or longer to reach the Keys.

"It's only a question of when," said Peter Ortner, a University of Miami oceanographer.

The U.S. Coast Guard reported that 20 tar balls were found off Key West on Monday, but said a lab analysis would have to determine their origin. The Florida Park Service during a shoreline survey found the balls that were about 3-to-8 inches in diameter.

In the month since an offshore drilling platform exploded, killing 11 workers, BP has struggled to stop the leak, trying in vain to activate emergency valves and lowering a 100-ton box that got clogged with icy crystals. Over the weekend, the oil company finally succeeded in using a stopper-and-tube combination to siphon some of the gushing oil into a tanker, but millions of gallons are already in the Gulf.................>>>>..............>>>>...............http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/05/17/coast-guard-tar-balls-key-west/

you dont think it's mandated now via cost control and grants for 'green energy'......that is the ring in our nose with the leash attached......

Stop Censoring News From The Gulf
June 14, 2010 : 1:08 PM
Al Gore

These reports are deeply disturbing:

“When the operators of Southern Seaplane in Belle Chasse, La., called the local Coast Guard-Federal Aviation Administration command center for permission to fly over restricted airspace in Gulf of Mexico, they made what they thought was a simple and routine request.”

“A pilot wanted to take a photographer from The Times-Picayune of New Orleans to snap photographs of the oil slicks blackening the water. The response from a BP contractor who answered the phone late last month at the command center was swift and absolute: Permission denied.”

This behavior is completely unacceptable. Access by reporters should be as unfettered as possible. This de facto form of censorship needs to stop.

If the Govt or a private company ever tried to restrict access during Katrina, there would have been immediate calls for impeachment, Supreme Court fights, lawsuits and more.

A spokeswoman for the agency, Laura J. Brown, said the flight restrictions are necessary to prevent civilian air traffic from interfering with aircraft assisting the response effort.

Certainly there was more rescue aircraft (coast guard picking people off roofs) during Katrina, yet live media coverage was 24x7 - including everyones favorite liberal, Geraldo Rivera (/tic)

This is absurd.  Where's that "transparency" ?

Of course, Gore too is a hypocrite - he's the one famous for barring media from his speeches

MSNBC Trashes Obama's Address: Compared To Carter, "I Don't Sense Executive Command"

Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann and Howard Fineman react to President Obama's Oval Office Address on the oil spill. Here are the highlights of what the trio said:

Olbermann: "It was a great speech if you were on another planet for the last 57 days."

Matthews compared Obama to Carter.

Olbermann: "Nothing specific at all was said."

Matthews: "No direction."

Howard Fineman: "He wasn't specific enough."

Olbermann: "I don't think he aimed low, I don't think he aimed at all. It's startling."

Howard Fineman: Obama should be acting like a "commander-in-chief."

Matthews: Ludicrous that he keeps saying [Secretary of Energy] Chu has a Nobel prize. "I'll barf if he does it one more time."

Matthews: "A lot of meritocracy, a lot of blue ribbon talk."

Matthews: "I don't sense executive command."
