in addition to the severe belt tightening, the governor said he would need to raise $1 billion in new taxes and fees -- some politically controversial.
* A $1 increase in the cigarette tax, raising the state tax to $3.75.
* A new soda tax that will cost consumers 1-cent per ounce -- a 16-ounce bottle will cost 16 cents more, a 64-ounce bottle 64 cents more.
* The governor also plans to legalize and sanction cage fighting.
* And allow wine to be sold in grocery stores.
* And introduce 50 speed cameras on highways to catch unsuspecting motorists with fines of up to $100.
Paterson had better rethink a few of those taxes especially the cameras which some states are taking out after having installed them for legal issues. Paterson like many tax and spend politicians don't seem to understand that people are sick and tired of this state constantly raising taxes no matter what form the state disguises them. They raise fees on all permits, licenses, vehicle registrations, and tolls and they think we're too stupid to figure out that it's just another tax on the residents.
We need some serious changes in this state. These people have got to be voted out!! NYS needs a tea party....NOW!!!
Another dollar tax on cigarettes, while at the same time they offer the 'smokers quite line'. Go figure!
And cage fighting? I'm speechless!
1 penny per ounce of soda? OMG!!!
YUP....we need NYS tea party....NOW!!!
When the INSANE are running the ASYLUM In individuals, insanity is rare; but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule. -- Friedrich Nietzsche
“How fortunate for those in power that people never think.” Adolph Hitler
When are the citizens of the state, county and nation going to wake up and realize the party’s over? By this I refer to [the] economy, and the fact that we are broke. This will not be fixed overnight or in a few years. We as a nation are going to be broke for a long time. The spending without care has to stop now. Politicians in all parties have to stop lying to voters. Voters have to clean house, from the village, county, city, state, federal level. Only then do we stand a chance. Don’t say yes, then say “not by rep.” That’s a big part of the problem. New York state’s is a terrible example of bad legislatures. Look at Texas: no state tax, part-time leaders who meet every other year, meet about 140 days, make laws, etc., and go home. No fat pensions, health care for life, like here. Please wake up. Schools have to cut back. Parents, it should be your responsibility to get your kid to school, not taxpayers. Health care is not a given right, it’s up to each person to take care of himself or herself. What has happened to honesty, and stand-up people, corporations? Have greed and dishonesty really won?
