SYRACUSE — U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., wants National Grid to keep jobs in New York. Her comments were a response to newspaper reports last month that said the company is considering outsourcing its information services division. Gillibrand said Tuesday that she sent a letters to Tom King, president of National Grid USA, and the company’s CEO at the company’s headquarters in the United Kingdom, urging them to keep the workforce they have had since 2002. The Post-Standard in Syracuse reported in late December that National Grid told employees in its information services division that they could see their jobs outsourced over the next year. As many as 1,200 jobs in New York could be affected. Citing employees, the Post-Standard said National Grid planned to consolidate and outsource much of its information technology-related work force. James Denn, a spokesman for the state Public Service Commission, which regulates utilities, was also cited in the article, saying that PSC had been notified that National Grid was exploring outsourcing. In the Greater Capital Region, there are a total of seven full-time positions in the Information Services division. There are around 200 such jobs in the Syracuse area. ............>>>>..................>>>>...............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00504&AppName=1
