CAPITOL Audits: Medicaid cost $92M BY VALERIE BAUMAN The Associated Press
New York has lost at least $92 million to Medicaid billing errors and waste since 2004, according to a series of audits state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli released Tuesday. “The health department needs to step up, needs to do more to prevent fraud,” DiNapoli said. In one case, auditors found a Medicaid recipient from Poughkeepsie who had gotten $300 round-trip taxi rides to visit her child at a long-term care facility in Albany five days a week. The Dutchess County Local Department of Social Services approved the trips, at a total cost of nearly $196,000. After the comptroller’s audit, the taxi trips were classified as not medically necessary. Auditors also prevented payment of more than $20 million on claims that were either incorrect or not properly handled in the state Department of Health’s claims system. In one case, a reimbursement rate was changed from $147.74 to $15,151.28 because of a typing mistake. The department’s automated system didn’t detect the potentially expensive error. The comptroller’s office also found the health department improperly paid more than $53 million for 25,950 recipients who had been assigned more than one Medicaid identification number from local social services districts. The health department made separate Medicaid payments to providers under each identification number. The agency plans to pursue $2.4 million of the $53 million lost. Officials said the agency won’t collect the rest because it’s too difficult to determine who to go after for the money when two providers were paid for the same thing. ......................>>>>....................>>>>...............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01904&AppName=1
This waste is only in New York how well to you think the Federal Government is going to do with the whole country when the Health-Care bill goes into effect.
I was just browsing this board, and sw this cab ride thing.
What does everyone think? A mom without a car, the state moves her child far away, and then says it's not necessary for the mother to visit the child?
It's just like our elderly parents, the goverment can move them far away from us when they are in nursing homes, that wasy the state can make sure that little is done to take care of them properly, and parent will die and the state is off the hook for taking care of them.
The mom could move, but may have a job in her home town which she wouldn't have if the moved, and I'm talking a low income job. Maybe other children are settled in their school, maybe a court has directed that other children not lieave the county as part of custody (I have heard of this where the custodial parent cannot move).
And if the mom doesn't have money, how will she pay rent up here.
So what is the solution so that a mom can be near a child to oversee his/her care, to be near by because if it's a young child, the child may be afraid without the parent, but if the parent doesn't ahve a car and can't afford one, what can be done?
What is the medical necesity of keeping the mother away from her child?
I'm curious because there was a news story last week about Albany co shipping nursing home patients far away from their families.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
As long as the liberal socialist progressive dems are in control of our tax dollar, this kind of bulls!t will just continue. And ally is proof of that. Alley will surely tell you how this mom was a 'victim'. Boo Hoo!
And people actually want our government to take over our health care?
There is more fraud in government programs than anywhere else. And they are fraudulent with our tax dollar and we have NO say in it whatsoever!!
Smarten up people....vote them ALL out!!!
