HH Mary Barie would be a terrific choice for the seat or chair of the party. She is very bright and fair. However Parisi is part of the problem certainly not part of the solution. FOF is correct. He has so ruined our party that after his personal attacks on delGallo and ST not speaking out against those attacks, I switched to voting for the NNTP in the town. Peeper's post has much validity. Take notice.
MB appears to be a very nice person. I just don't agree with the environmentalist liberal view. I believe MB has a place as an environmentalist watch dog, although I don't see her as a benefit as a town board member.
And even though GP has obviously not helped the reputation of the rep party, he just may be the guy for the tb. We should not be looking for tb members that will play footsie with each other and be all warm and fuzzy with each other. We need checks and balances. And we don't need an entire tb who is like minded and a group that will walk lock step with each other. Wasn't that the complaint about the past administration? Isn't that also the concern at the city and county level?
We are told that we will have 2 strong dems and 2 strong cons on the board. We need a strong rep for balance. IMHO Is GP just the guy? We'll see.

Can't agree with you Bumblethru even though I would like to. First MB as an environmentlist does not mean she is a liberal based on her work. She revealed herself to have a much bigger view of the world specifically the county. I think she would be an asset anywhere she went. Why? Because she's smart. You don't need the town board to be like minded as you say but I have to say we were pretty damn happy when it was going our way on the board. Nah GP can only further hurt us.
Based on my discussions with Mary, I find her to be very intelligent, honest and sincere. She seems to have a genuine concern for her community and an interest in serving its residents. Most importantly, I don't perceive her to be a part of the establishment that places party and special interests before people.
As for the appointment of Gerard to the Rotterdam Town Board, I view this as a divisive decision. Regardless of his qualifications, his continued involvement in the local Republican party leadership, after his behavior during the recent election cycle, will result in losses in party enrollment and future Republican defeats at the polls IMHO.
This action will ensure that third party challenges, like that by the No New Tax Party, continue to be mounted. The filling of the vacancy on the Rotterdam Town Board presented to the local Republican party "leadership" an opportunity to unite the party. With the naming of Parisi to the position, it is, regrettably, an opportunity lost.
The unanimous 29-0 committee vote supporting the recommendation of Parisi to fill the vacant seat that was reported by new Rotterdam Republican Chair Tebano in his letter is not uncommon or surprising in a system in which a few powerbrokers may hold the proxy votes of many. I don't believe that the degree of consensus exists in the "rank and file" party members or in the community at large IMHO. It is curious too that we have heard nothing from other prominent local Republicans on this issue and decision.
Let us hope that for the sake of our country there exists unity between Republicans and Conservatives in the 2010 state and congressional elections and that the Town of Rotterdam political scene is NOT a microcosm of the national political environment.

Rotterdam’s Republican Committee has chosen Gerard Parisi as their candidate to replace Michael Della Villa on the Town Board after his resignation earlier this month. Parisi, the soon-to-be former town attorney, will resign his seat as chairman of the committee pending his appointment to the board. Members of the board are expected to take up the appointment during a special meeting Wednesday evening. In a letter announcing the choice to the all-Republican Town Board, acting Chairman Attilio Tebano said the committee was unanimous in its decision. He said the committee “overwhelmingly” viewed Parisi as the most qualified among several of the individuals interviewed for the position and urged the board to approve the appointment. “Mr. Parisi has served the town for the last four plus years and is extremely familiar with almost all aspects of town operations. Furthermore, he is committed to the core Republican principles of reducing taxes and government,” Tebano wrote. If the appointment is ratified by the remaining four board members, Tebano will become the permanent chairman of the committee, according to his letter. Parisi’s law firm is also expected to terminate its service as the privately contracted town attorney Wednesday, just two hours before the special meeting. Della Villa resigned from his board seat this month citing work obligations that frequently require him to travel out of state. He left the seat with two years remaining on his term. Any replacement will serve through 2010, but be required to run for the last year on Della Villa’s term. The full four-year term will be up for election in November 2011. Parisi has been at odds with supervisor-elect Frank Del Gallo, a Democrat, since the 2009 campaign, when he openly questioned the candidate’s ability to serve. His statements prompted Del Gallo and all other candidates appearing on the Democratic ticket to boycott any public forums with the Republicans. Del Gallo, a conservative, said there are no hard feelings between him and Parisi. He welcomed the GOP’s choice and said he’s eager to get down to business with the incoming board, which will is now assured to have five new members. “I don’t have a problem with him,” he said Monday. “I’m just excited to getting going.” Likewise, board member-elect Robert Godlewski said he didn’t have any issue with the appointment. He wished the outgoing administration would have allowed the new board to make the appointment and suggested they would have chosen Brian McGarry, the No New Tax Party candidate for supervisor in November, as Della Villa’s replacement. “But we have to move forward,” he said. “We know what we have to do and it’s not going to be easy.” Parisi did not return a call for comment Monday. At least one sitting board member isn’t thrilled by the Republican’s choice. John Mertz said choosing Parisi for the seat is “comical” and further evidence of the party’s disconnect with voters. “He’s a bridge burner,” he said of Parisi. “He’s clearly not a bridge builder.” Parisi abruptly announced the committee wouldn’t endorse Mertz for re-election in September 2008, more than a year before the election. The committee eventually selected county Legislator Joe Suhrada in his place, leaving Mertz to run on the No New Tax Party ticket; neither candidate was elected. “[Parisi] singlehandedly cost the Republicans the election,” Mertz said, indicating he would vote against the appointment. “There’s no question about that.”

At the end of the day, when all is said and done and the people of Rotterdam once again express their anger, mistrust and disgust through the election process, Gerard Parisi will be shown the door. One of the most bizarre, stupid and idiotic political appointments ever made in the annuls of Rotterdam storied politics. And to think that Tomassone, Signore and Marchinkowski would support this clown is as absurd as the individual being appointed.
These three amigos have cast their last stone in the pond of Rotterdam politics and will never hold public office again. So long Rotterdam GOP.

You are right on some issues. Environmentalist, historically, has cost the taxpayer's money. Some for good cause and some just plain nonsense!
MB is smart. But smart isn't always the best pick. GP is smart....he's an attorney! Was he the best pick. I doubt it but won't know until Jan 2010. The bigger question is....will the appointment of GP to the town board bring more badly needed new republican members into the fold? Or will the 'good old boys club' just continue to die it's own death?
