Parents need our support — particularly foster, adoptive and birth parents of youth who may be lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, or questioning (LGBT/Q) of their sexuality. Statistics show these youth are at the highest risk for homelessness, drug abuse, suicide, and more. On Dec. 10, “A Thousand Moms,” a new Schenectady-based community organization dedicated to supporting LGBT/Q youth in foster/adoptive care and their families, is holding the first statewide “Network of Support” telephone conference call. Professionals, agency staff and parents charged with care of these youth are welcome to participate. This ground-breaking effort will focus on holiday stresses and is open to all concerned parties.
