Pricechopper ground beef recall

CBS 6 news

Price Chopper Supermarkets is voluntarily recalling select packages of USDA ground beef with expiration dates of September 16 through October 5, 2009.

The recall is in response to information from USDA and Fairbank Farms - a supplier to several chains in the Northeast that is believed to have distributed beef containing E. Coli.

The Varieties of ground beef in question are:

Ground round, Ground Sirloin, 80% lean ground beef, 80% lean chili meat, 93% lean grind, 96% lean grind, Meat loaf mix.

Consumers are encouraged to check their freezers for these varieties of ground beef.

I don't know about you - but when I buy meat at the market, I don't keep it in the store packaging - it gets split up, re-wrapped, etc.

You're supposed to know from a MONTH ago if you have this particular beef?

ALBANY - An Albany County resident died after eating tainted beef that was recently recalled from local supermarkets.

     
The state Health Department told The Associated Press that the victim, an adult from Albany County, died from sickness caused by E. coli bacteria. The victim had underlying health problems. Another death has been reported in New Hampshire.

I was notified by Price Chopper that we had bought some of the tainted meat but they were a day late and a dollar short as we had already consumed it.
