MVP is first in area to reimburse doctors for online ‘house calls’

    MVP Health Care of Schenectady has become the first health insurer in the Capital Region to reimburse physicians for “virtual house calls.”
    It launched the pilot program Oct. 1 in cooperation with Mohawk Valley Medical Associates, using RelayHealth’s patient and physician online communication services.
    MVP spokesman Gary Hughes said 22,000 physicians are eligible to use the new technology. Mohawk Valley Medical Associates, an independent physician association in Schenectady, is offering physicians immediate reimbursement and subsidies to defray expenses to introduce the technology.
    “There is a tremendous convenience factor for patients with non-urgent conditions.
