League of Women Voters nonpartisan above all

The League of Women Voters of Schenectady County has sponsored political candidate forums so that the voters can gain information that will help them when they vote. To set the record straight, amid the controversy and misinformation that surrounded the forums this year, the League promotes an informed electorate and works to increase voter turnout. It is nonpartisan in its efforts, supporting no political party or candidates.
At a political forum in Rotterdam this year, the League faced a situation in which a slate of candidates chose not to attend the forum to engage in questioning from an audience [Oct. 27 Gazette]. The League chose to allow the attending candidates to make statements about their candidacy without including questions from the audience. When such a compromise is made, not everyone will agree. However, this decision was made in good faith.
As president of the League of Women Voters of Schenectady County, I would urge candidates of all parties to participate in future forums because ultimately they benefit the voters and future constituents. The League welcomes suggestions on how future forums may be improved and, as it always does, analyzes the positives and negatives of its efforts each election season.
Comments may be addressed to the League at P.O. Box 9135, Schenectady, NY 12309 or at the Web site at http://www. lwvschenectady.org.

The national bylaws say that if more than one candidate is there, they can debate. In most races there were, except supervisor. They bent over backwards
to accomodate the Dem chair. I saw it with my own eyes in the lobby during the first forum btw the sheriff candidates. I sathink they wanted to accomodate
the dems far more than be fair to the R or the audience. Subtle bias but bias nonetheless, and they probably don't even realize it.

All indications point to a HUGE tidal wave of discontent with the current 5-0 Republican Admin.  Stan the Man losing. The NNTP factor.  The large amount of money raised by the Dems.  The smell of the appointment of Craig Surprise.  The stink around town on Gerry Parisi's ill-advised "Sesame Street" blunder.  The Mertz factor. The same tired Republican candidates that have run for office over the last 10-15 years.  The way they have handled Eunice and the former assessor.  The wave of Democrats winning statewide in Republican strongholds.

Yeah I'd say their days are numbered.

Posted October 22, 2009  Again I hate to say I told you so but many posters accused me of being "bitter," a moron, a DEM operative, a shrill for FDG, lacking any credibility, not having the pulse of the electorate.  History indeed has repeated itself...ask Joe Signore from his losing days of yore what/who cost him that election

Trust me; my phone has been ringing off the hook.  PuddyCat RULES!

There is only one reason why DEMS won.....because folks are chickensh!t.....they dont know what change is
and are too busy/tired/apathetic......and besides.....we all know FDG will be stepping down
to let the retreads rotate.......

and as for Mertz and McGarry...............the eyes are the window to the soul.......you are who you hang with

Hey benny....when did you become such a 'krat' lover? Are you saying that you are more than happy with your city of schenectady? Are you saying that the 'krat' run plex, the 'krat' run proctors, the 'krat' run everything is doing just fine?

You are just as hollow as the others. Compromising your principles....if you even ever had them. Your sudden interest in rotterdam politics proves that you, like the TROLL, are just into the drama. And if there isn't any drama....you'se will sure as hell create it and be in the middle of it craving for attention.

You are a total disappointment. No credibility. Just rhetoric with your ridiculous 'fake' polls to your supposed loathing of the dem party turned to rep party. Just like the TROLL who is a self proclaimed liberal, tax and spend, bleeding heart, staunch dem but will suddenly bullet vote for conservative, cut spending, non bleeding heart, non liberal... Littlefield.

Yup.....empty suit, empty skirt, political whores at best.

BT--are you 12?  What's with the name calling? (troll/whore) It's too bad someone didn't do an intervention on you when you were a child.  Where were the social workers, and clergy who could have helped you?  Maybe you could get some free counseling at the free clinic.  Some meds might be of help.

I sure did support Littlefield and originally had suggested a bullet vote for him yes.  In the end I did not bullett vote and Brad knew this.  Brad also knew I didn't agree with his philosophy and we agreed to disagree on those issues. You see even though he was a conservative thinker, he listened.  He understood that dialogue does not mean debate. I went to his fundraiser because he personally invited me.  I supported him because he ASKED me to.  If I weren't liberal in my thinking I would not have been able to make that leap to support someone who needed it and I would be nothing more than an "empty" tea kettle! IMHO

what's with the labels.....liberals aren't any nicer than anyone else......and republicans aren't any nicer than
democrats......the things that divide the sheeple ARE the labels.......and.....that is the way the top
of the pyramid likes it.......

Senders--liberal in my thinking does not a label make.  Using it as a descriptor--true, Liberals aren't any nicer than other folks--but they seem to have more room in their world for all types of people and ideas.  At least the ones I know seem to work that way.

I do not label myself nor describe myself as liberal.....however, I would label myself as curious, seeking
weighing etc.....I have room in my world.....tell me like it is(even if I dont like it) and you darn well
had better accept it when I give it back.....I expect it....straight up, no sugar, no I'm sorry, no buts
etc.......

liberal means---whatever goes.......'whatever', doesn't just go.......if P then Q goes......

Ok Senders--you got me.  I am not as strong as you.  I probably need a little sugar, and sorry helps.  In a poltical discussion people immediately "label" themselves so you can somewhat know where the conversation might be heading.  Not saying liberal means whatever goes because that could lead down a questionable path.

that is how folks 'hide themselves'......I say just speak,,,,say what you mean and mean what you say
at the time......situations always change.....but a person must stand on their own,,,,,,,if no one takes
it then----oh well,,,,,,folks never come back to make sure you have a turkey on your table.....especially
the government........a friend will, and the government is not my friend---it's a machine........
