Obama’s Nobel Prize politics pure and simple
The Oct. 10 headline screams, “Obama’s Nobel jolts world — Prize Panel: Decision of hope, not record.” Just what is the world coming to? It is my understanding that a prize is given for accomplishments — not for the hope of accomplishments. You do not give an award to an athlete in the hope that he or she will win a race. You wait until the race has been run and then you give the award to the winner. This has been well illustrated by the various Nobel Prizes that have been awarded to scientists at the GE research and development center at one time or another for significant accomplishments. Based on this, I am rather surprised that President Obama accepted the award. My only conclusion from this has to be that we have a group of liberal elites in Sweden who are trying to influence American foreign policy. I think it is an abuse of Nobel Prize system to use it in this way for political purposes.

There is a migratory bird with the same name which is one that can be hunted. They are found in wetlands, and are very hard to shoot. You don't want to find out what they taste like once you do shoot them. Any little boy knows what night crawlers and earthworms taste like! And that is what Woodcock taste like! LOL!!!! They spend their time eating worms in the swamps so the meat tastes the same! I will take the delicious Ruffed Grouse any day over the Woodcock! However the Woodcock is a very difficult prey! |

Really, for all you men out there- do you remember a simpler time when you had to eat a worm or nightcrawler to prove to your pals what a tough guy you were? Those damn things tasted just like dirt! I think I was 12 the last time I chewed on a worm to show how cool I was! Then when I hunted and shot my first Woodcock I thought " I will be damned if I have to eat this wormy tasting thing!" But I will tell you something, they fly like helicopters and twice as fast up and off of the swamps! Reflecting on that- when I was about 11 years old, picking nightcrawlers on the grass in the dead of night in Central Park with my Dad and friends, and plopping them into a Maxwell House can- that was as much fun as fishing the next day! WHO remembers that? And tell me, did we have it made that something so simple could keep us excited way back then??? Now the poor kids need all kinds of money and electronics to stimulate them! How sad! |

^5 GB ... I totally agree.
Or playing kick the can, dodgeball etc on your neighbors lawn at night, not causing any damage, just having FUN. Simpler times, just as much fun - if not moreso. |

My older brother would come home on Saturday afternoons in the fall with a bag of partridge that he shot up there in the country with his friends- IN CLIFTON PARK! Then we would clean and skin the birds. That was the wilderness then!!!! LOL! And that and a board game and a model airplane would be the be-all-end-all of life in the late 60's thru late 70's! We thought life was grand if dad was able to bring us to FRONTIER TOWN or STORY TOWN once a summer!!!!!! LOL!!!!! How life has changed for the kids. The more they have at a early age the more I feel sorry for them! |
