Paterson finally gets the message on fallacy of excess taxation
When budget negotiations were being conducted behind closed doors earlier this year, the mantra was to tax the rich in order to cover the growing budget deficit. Now, a Sept. 28 Associated Press article reads that Gov. Paterson realizes this policy was the wrong course of action. During budget negotiations, I repeatedly warned that overtaxing the people of New York would inevitably lead to devastating job losses and ultimately drive people out of the state. Instead of just balancing the budget or decreasing spending, which could have been done, $10 billion in new taxes and fees were implemented. Now, with a $4.6 billion budget defi cit projected over the next two years, the question is: What will be done about it? First is to practice fiscal discipline. Second, cut job-killing taxes and regulations on small businesses to make us more competitive. Third, lower the property tax burden for all. New York is ranked one of the highest in the nation for paying the most in property taxes. By lowering taxes, the state will create universal revenue streams across the board. It is plain to see that we are not competitive with other states; so why do we continue the same course of action? The current state leaders continually want to rely on the government to resolve every issue. They do not understand that putting the tools into the hands of those who actually create jobs and grow our economy will get us out of this economic mess. The solutions are very clear. Whether the leaders responsible for this year’s budget fiasco will give the people of New York what they deserve will be the question. I, for one, will fight for a budget that imposes no tax increases and that retools state government as smaller, more efficient and less expensive.
GEORGE AMEDORE Rotterdam The writer is a state assemblyman.

he is one the incumbents you stated you want to throw out to be replaced by a Democrat who thinks high taxes and more government spending is always the solution. |

And the reps are not doing the same....like how? God....the reps are supporting AND promoting 'more government', hence higher taxes for rems.....a non profit! That my friend is beyond ridiculous! They are just as bad! AND they are using the dems platform by using the fear factor that people will be dying in the streets for God's sake! NONSENSE! I wonder what georgie thinks about this one. |

yeah, just as bad. The Pataki era looks like the good old days compared to these spenders. I am beginning to wonder if you "conservatives" can do basic arithmetic. Run the numbers and stop blowing wind. OK, I concede, vote in all democrats everywhere, real conservatives all agree! LOL!!!! The problem with you 3 guys is you ignore facts and numbers and don't want to look at what has happened in the few months since the GOP lost the Senate and the Democrats smashed open the piggy bank, spent that, then rummaged through every house on the block, smashing all those piggy banks. You would cut off your face to spite your face. Unreal. |

Facts can be manipulated. The fact is, the bar for fiscal conservatism keeps on being moved. The House Republicans were guilty of huge deficit spending, which resulted in Democrats taking control of both houses in 06. And huge deficit spending for social programs at that.(prescription drug bill) Now, Republicans want to point fingers at the Democrats and their massive spending, and run as fiscal conservatives. Expecting conservatives to forget how they were burned by Republicans between 2000 and 2008 with spending on a scale that nobody could imagine, until this current congress.
So now the Republicans say, "Well, we only spent the American taxpayer into a trillion dollar deficit. Look at Obama, he's spending 5 times that." Fiscal conservatism to the Republican Party just means campaigning on spending less than the current Democrats, even though they spent more than the previous Democrats(Clinton) after elected. Unreal. |

George is for Metrograft and thinks it's a great idea! Another NY CONS? lol. BT is right about the EMS tax. If the REPS don't wake up and join the NO NEW TAXES PARTY in opposing it the DEMS will sweep. When presented with 2 slates of liberal spenders the voters will always pick the DEMS. |

Oh yeah George is a real humanist. Voted against more rights for farmworkers. ARE YOU KIDDING!!! Also voted against a law affecting senior citizens who rent. He voted against the receiving of their security deposit in an expedited manner. Gee--Mr. Amedore can you afford a little compassion for the "least of your brethern?" Must be the sound of cash is ringing in his ears and he can't hear the little crying out for help. |

Just what we need. More regulations and rules and laws to shut down farms, close factories, drive up rents, keep people from investing in property. New York, will the last productive person who leaves put the plywood up on the facade? |

George Amedore ~
You are absolutely correct. There needs to be more focus on small businesses and what they contribute to society. Maybe you should talk to these guys in Rotterdam and tell them to "fight for a budget that imposes no tax increases and that retools state TOWN government as smaller, more efficient and less expensive" ~ because we're not hearing that loud enough! |
