(CNSNews.com) - Even though the Border Patrol now reports that almost 1,300 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border is not under effective control, and the Department of Justice says that vast stretches of the border are “easily breached,” and the Government Accountability Office has revealed that three persons “linked to terrorism” and 530 aliens from “special interest countries” were intercepted at Border Patrol checkpoints last year, the administration is nonetheless now planning to decrease the number of Border Patrol agents deployed on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Border Patrol Director of Media Relations Lloyd Easterling confirmed this week--as I first reported in my column yesterday--that his agency is planning for a net decrease of 384 agents on the U.S.-Mexico border in fiscal 2010, which begins on October 1.

A Department of Homeland Security annual performance review updated by the Obama administration on May 7 said the Border Patrol “plans to move several hundred Agents from the Southwest Border to the Northern Border to meet the FY 2010 staffing requirements, with only a small increase in new agents for the Southwest Border in the same year.”

This move should help to prevent those pesky terrorists from getting into the country, not.

I'm actually tired of hearing about this illegal immigration and protecting boarder sh*t. This has been going on with  both the rep and dem administrations. They have ALL failed to protect our boarders and deal with illegals. Future vote getters? Perhaps. IMHO

WASHINGTON - The Obama administration is preparing to send federal agents to the Southwest border as reinforcements in the fight against Mexican drug cartels, even as officials consider taking money from one immigration enforcement program and using it to fight cartel-related crime.

The deployments are part of President Barack Obama's first moves to boost federal security on the U.S. side of the border.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A plan by President Barack Obama to send more federal agents to the Mexican border is inadequate to control growing drug violence in the two countries, an influential U.S. senator said on Wednesday, and he said he would seek $385 million more from Congress.

Senator Joseph Lieberman, chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, said he would try to quickly pass funding to hire 1,600 more Customs and Border Patrol agents and extra immigration officers, build up law enforcement centers and fight human trafficking.

On Tuesday the Obama administration outlined plans to redeploy more than 500 federal agents to border posts and the Mexican interior and redirect $200 million to combat smuggling of illegal drugs, money and weapons.

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama will ask Congress for $27 billion to beef up border security and immigration enforcement, administration officials said Wednesday.

The president's fiscal 2010 budget request, to be delivered to lawmakers Thursday, calls for an 8-percent increase over the current fiscal year.

It also represents a shift away from what Obama officials see as headline-grabbing by the Bush administration, which emphasized erecting fences at the border and conducting high-profile workplace raids that targeted workers. New efforts will crack down on employers who drive the demand for illegal immigrants, White House officials said.

Obama hopes an increased investment in border security will be the first step in convincing the American people of the need for comprehensive immigration reform.
