City to appoint engineer; salary hiked by $8,000

BY KATHLEEN MOORE Gazette Reporter

The city has agreed to significantly increase the pay for the city engineer so that the vacant position can finally be filled.
In a meeting behind closed doors Tuesday, the City Council agreed in committee to raise the salary to $94,000 — $8,000 more than the former engineer received last year. He was due to get a raise to $93,600 this year, but that raise was partially withdrawn. He then resigned abruptly without notice, giving no explanation for his decision.
City officials have widely believed his salary was too low, and at Tuesday’s meeting, council members said the salary may still be far below the norm for experienced engineers.
But a former city worker, an engineer who left the city in the 1990s, agreed to work for at least two years for the $94,000 annual salary. Council members said they will use that time to discuss what payscale they should offer in the future. .......................>>>>.................>>>>............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01301&AppName=1

Should look at the county budget where they are ALL getting raises again!!!! Like every other year! Every manager an every elected official other than county leg, get a big boost. Some make 150K a year now! More than state commissioners!!! NO BODY CARES APPARENTLY
