History proves that American liberals can be good Christians, too
The Daily Gazette is a fine paper. Yet, I have never seen it print an opinion piece with as many interpretive errors as Pamela Terlaak-Poot’s July 19 Viewpoint. Correcting all of its revisionist history would take volumes, so I will try to correct one particular mistake — her mischaracterization of the liberal left as hostile to Christianity. Nobody refutes that idea more than the father of the liberal left she so reviles, George McGovern. A minister’s son, he was inspired by the theology and ministry of the social gospel. His unsuccessful effort to seek the presidency in 1972 brought its ideas to bear, campaigning for a guaranteed minimum income and an end to the bloody war in Vietnam. Because of legislation McGovern created, millions of impoverished children both at home and abroad can receive a free, nutritious lunch if they attend school. Since then, another Democratic presidential nominee, Walter Mondale, was also a minister’s son, while Al Gore attended divinity school. Additionally, no figure shaped the moral debate of the Cold War more than liberal theologian Reinhold Niebuhr, who argued that the United States should confront evil abroad while pursuing racial and social justice at home. Today, evangelicals Ron Sider and Jim Wallis have reinforced the scriptural imperative to feed the hungry, lift up the oppressed and aright the maldistribution of wealth. This list could continue indefinitely. Ergo, a closer, less polemic understanding of history reveals that the American left has a godly heritage, mindful of the ancient lessons of the Judeo-Christian ethic.
Anyone who starts a letter "the Gazetto is a fine paper?" should immediately be discounted.
Too many misstatements to answer but the focus on federal minimum wage as a positive is hilarious. These liberals need to take a basic economics course. Everytime the minimum wage is raised millions of people are dumped from the employment rolls.

It sounds like politics is your religion- or possibly Jewish ?
Evangelical Christians who go to church every Sunday, and really focus on the afterlife with a sort of intensity--they're more likely Republicans. But they only make up a few denominations. Baptist, Pentecostalism, Catholicism.. stuff like that.
Mostly because they see God as being serious about what he said, and that gays are an abomination, and that abortion is murder. So they go with the party that pretends to oppose those things-
I say just keep the crap to yourself....one is ALWAYS responsible for their own choices and actions.....whether we be liberal conservative democrat republican or even charles manson......JMHO
true religion....respect for oneself and the other person just for being and living....then power to use that toward an end result and the ability to accept the consequences for said choice/action.......
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
STOP BEING GOOD DEMOCRATS---STOP BEING GOOD REPUBLICANS--START BEING GOOD AMERICANS
