Every county in the state has a Youth Bureau and Director and/or other equivalent position with one title or another.

I have followed the Kosiur story.  And I look at it a little differently.  He was a councilman in the city.  Then he was a county legislator.  He chaired two committees -- Youth and something to do with intergovernment sharing -- and was the vice chair of the legislature.  Then his party nominated him (a demonstration of their belief, misplaced or not, in his abilities) to run for the State Legislature.  He lost badly.  At the point he lost he was not out of a job, but he was out of his part time elected legislator position.  Having been the chair of the Committee on Youth and having a long and able reputation for his work in that area it just does not seem so sinister that his fellow Democrats would tap him for something.  I don't think once a pol loses an election its required that the person be mothballed or blackballed.  And clearly his colleagues believed in his abilities.

On the philosophical point about what government should and should not do, I respect that deep albeit well-meaning differences of opinion exist.

I am new here.  But Mr. Salami with his "Death Ray" and his "Lumpy Kosiur"  seems to have an angry worldview I cannot identify with.

Angry, as in "Tommy Gun, Stevie Ego, Sur-rah-rah, Caroline Lizzardi, and So-cozio?" Or angry as in "cavones, struns, stunads, putanna" and all the choice Southern Italian/Rotterdamian lingo some like to throw at those in the other party or worldview? How about "nazi?" Is that angry enough to identify with? "Reichstag?" Another term I recall being thrown around at conservatives here by the nice and sweet Democrats. How about the term "Of Arab descent." Does that sound in the least angry?

How about the fact that he wasn't qualified to do the job created for him and the party removed a person that was qualified to make room for him, does that seem fair to you?

Remember Raucci and the school???

It's all about the kids folks.....yeah,,,,right......

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

GB:  I didn't know you were a moral relativist.  Your hero Joe Suhrada would not approve your defense of such unkind monickers.   I think making fun of or messing with someone's name or ancestry or likening them to villans of history is always wrong.

You may not like somebody but that is no cause to besmirch or mangle the name their mammas and pappies gave them.  To the extent people want to spout like 6th graders at recess, it is sure a free country. (Of course some here are convinced the Republic fell under enemy occupation on inauguration day.)  That notwithstanding, my observation is this:  If you would not say it to the person -- or to anybody else in person, why would you write it here?  Why would it be funny and persuasive here if not there?.  Some people embrace an alter ego in these anonymous forums and shed inhibitions that normally constrain how we talk to each other.  I'm just stating the obvious, really.  But it is curious.

By way of a Pilgrim's confession, I recently called Michael O'Connor "Saint Michael", and I now apologize for that.  And for all other sins of hypocrisy, I likewise am sorry.  It is no doubt a long list.

Shadow:  The point I made is that he was and is qualified.  You say he is unqualified as manifestly obvious, which based on his career I do not think is so.    It is an issue which has been beaten to death months ago; thank you for indulging it for one more go around.  I take my kool aid Blue and my biscuits should be imported Mint Milano.

Right, then you need to have words with your fellow leftists, since I am quoting them in the above. Thank you. Now go read some posts by the liberals here, and pay attention to what your democrats do and have done at campaign time.

GB ~ what do you think of these guys and this "No New Tax" proposal?  I am also curious to know how self-described conservative Surhada feels about it, besides the fact it includes one of his opponents.

Quite frankly, or frankly speaking,  which does the Ego prefer this week, I use monikers because they, in some circles, represent the "profile" of these very public local politicians.
Buchanan is known for his hair trigger temper and sorch the earth approach hence Tommy Gun,

Tom and Gerry are a cpl of "too cool for school" dudes sans the cat and mouse namesake of Tom B and Gerard Parisi.

Joe Sigsnore is half asleep on his job as a janitor and at board meetings hence "Sigsnore"  Has anybody checked for Sigsnore's "mancave" in the County Office Bldg.  Oh thats right its in Woodweird's office.  I hear there is an empty cot where Paul Brown used to nap!  ROTFLMAO

That is his business number.

He likes no new taxes. That is how he voted for 7 and a half years. He lived what others just talk about. For that he gets crucified as not being a leader. Yeah, not a leader in taxing. Check the vote record, girls. He is the one of only a few legislators in recent county history to never vote for a property tax hike. His budget cut proposals are soundly cut down (poor persuasion or just a dictatorial regime that has the other legislators' balls in a vise at vote-time?) each time. He even votes not to except grants that start new welfare programs, even though the programs are paid for with so-called "free" money the first year. But then the county taxpayers have to pick up the dime each time after that for waste and duplication.

The county budget is 15 times the size of the town. They need to cut. No one want to hear it but JS. A few of his colleagues join him, but it is hopeless making sense to the culture of big government and spending at the county. Hopeless. In about 6 years your county tax bill will be double what it is now. There will be no affording it. Voters do not always see where the money is going. The county even engaged in the subterfuge ( I will be less polite and call it what it is- a LIE) of having the county tax bill say 'State and Federal mandate Charge" in order to confuse voters. There is no coming back unless the brakes are slammed on. Liberals and conservatives alike should be alarmed, yet because of personal animus and party politics people bash JS as the problem, saying he is "against too much." Tell us what there is to "be for" when the fiscal situation is as desperate as that.

At the town level there is a need to have someone likewise fiscally conservative to argue against overspending and over-reaching. Perhaps JS logic will be "more persuasive" there? It is up to the voters. I don't think you will find JS "going along" with nonsense in his own party any more than he "went along" with the republican election commission for allegedly touching a young girl. Lost a few friends on that one, had some really mean things said. Peer pressure was to be silent...how did that play out?

So if you think for one minute JS will NOT speak up when on the board, you are incorrect. If you think he isn't running because he would have "lost" the county race, check the facts. The county race in district 4 is more more republican friendly than the town race. Duanesburg votes handily for JS and it is like having an extra party line. The town race is more challenging, due to enrollments. However, being "afraid to lose" isn't in his DNA. he wouldn't have run in the first place when Bill Barnes, John Macejka, and Dave Leon were all in that first race. He would have quit against Judy Dagostino and Christine Mallozzi in the second. ALL big, big, big names in town. So don't worry about his motives. He is not afraid of anything or anyone except God above. Whether you believe him or not, he will vote his conscious even if the Cabernet wine set says his is gauche and insensitive for being "against" things. Average people are sick of the crap and the go-along-quietly-to-fiscal-ruin style of voting.

End of story.

Enjoy the rest of the summer and stay safe and dry. God bless.
