Right you will see every dead ender/party stooge filing nonsense complaints. Stray marks, wrong color ink, coffee stains, etc, etc. They like the idea of running against blanks or fill in sacrificial lambs.

Gage ~ obviously you're in the union, we get it.  I am sure you can compare the various unions and come to the same determination that most conservatives come to; some unions get waaaaaaaaayyyyyy more than others.  I think that unions have played an important role in the employment sector since their inception, but I also feel some unions control too much and the state/county/town officials have to bow to their wishes or suffer the consequences.

Compare the union benefits in the public sector with the union benefits in the private sector.

I guess unions are only good if you belong to one. However, when you are not, and  are paying, through our taxdollars, for not only their salary and benefits, but for them to lobby for government programs we don't even support.

Just like the political parties the unions have lost site of their original goal which was to protect it's members from unfair treatment. Unions weren't formed to contribute money to political campaigns or back politicians who promise to make laws which benefit the unions. Like so many organizations in this country they have become just another greedy business and as a retired union member of 33 years I have witnessed this first hand.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
August 17, 2009

TOWN AND COUNTY CANDIDATES FILE PETITIONS ESTABLISHING
“NO NEW TAX” PARTY IN ROTTERDAM

Rotterdam Town Councilman John Mertz and newcomers Brian McGarry, Michael O’Connor and Brad Littlefield will file petitions with the Schenectady County Board of Elections on Tuesday establishing an independent line, the “No New Tax” party for this year’s General Election.

The staunch fiscal conservatives will submit over 900 signatures for the town board races and over 900 for the county legislative race from local residents.  The number of signatures far surpasses the number of signatures required under New York State Election Law to establish an independent party line for the upcoming General Election.

“Rotterdam taxpayers are sick of politics altogether. This grassroots movement is putting the power back where it belongs; with the people” said Mertz, who is being challenged in the Republican Primary and who will appear on the “No New Tax” line for the General Election.  “The overwhelmingly positive response to our “No New Tax” party is indicative of that.”

“The sheer number of signatures signifies the public’s discontent with high taxes and reckless spending by our town government,” said Brian McGarry, No New Tax Party candidate for Supervisor and Conservative Party Primary Challenger.  “We are very humbled by the outpouring of support that we have received from the community.  I will continue to work to ensure that the ideals and values we share, as fiscal conservatives, are made a reality for the residents in Rotterdam.”  McGarry added "Any attempt to challenge the petitions and disenfranchise these voters will only prove that the political party bosses do not want to encourage the competition of ideas elections are intended to promote."

“It’s time for a fresh perspective on the Town Board; elected officials that will protect taxpayers, not exploit them,” said O’Connor, Republican Primary Challenger for the two year Town Board vacancy left by resigning board member John Silva (D) and No New Tax Party Candidate for Town Board.  “Creating new taxing districts for the purpose of offsetting and obscuring new spending runs contrary to everything we believe in as fiscal conservatives,”

“Any small business owner or taxpayer in Schenectady County will tell you that the current level of government spending is unacceptable and unsustainable. You must be in touch with your community and have an awareness of how the economy is impacting residents.” added Brad Littlefield, No New Tax Party candidate for the Schenectady County Legislature District 4 and Conservative Party Primary Challenger.  “For too long, our residents have been burdened by oppressive property taxes.  It’s time for a change.  That’s what the “No New Tax” party offers to residents.

“The incredible number of residents who wanted to sign these nominating petitions is reflective of an electorate that is much smarter than the typical party boss gives them credit for,” said Mertz.  “I am confident that this election will be like nothing the party machines in Rotterdam have ever seen.”

To date, the No New Tax Party has attracted considerable support. The Upstate Conservative Coalition, the Primary Challenge organization, and the New York Tea Party Patriots have offered financial contributions and volunteers.

Great job! This is a breath of fresh air in a County where the 2 party system has become a complete joke. Prediction: The NO NEW TAX PARTY becomes the third largest party. Because it stands for something.

One Party runs the same old hacks again and the other runs Mr. Blank/unelectable fill ins. Mr Roger Hull had it right disgraceful/Cuba North.

Loses all cred though with John Mertza on the ticket.  I would have rather seen some indep minded dems etc.  I believe Brian, the Okie man and Brad would have been better guided by someone other than John Boy.  There are some names that come to mind but Mertz would have no part of them.  Warning track power if you ask me.

You may not like Mertz personally, but it doesn't change the truth of the message.  Party bosses depend on the uninformed electorate to pull the lever for Dem or Repub.  These guys did the leg work to offer a new message.  They did it without the party machine and the help of a well funded party paying for robocalls. This was done by going door to door, and meeting people face to face.  I recall Bob Godlewski showing up at my door and just handing me a democrat flyer.  He did not attempt to engage me, or tell me what he was representing.  Just an introduction, handed me the flyer, and bolted.  Needless to say, those flyers ended up in my garbage shortly after they were handed to me.

I think there is a sentiment out there that people believe their votes are taken for granted by those in the two major party's.  Nobody wants to hear your concerns, they just want you to look at their faces on a flyer.  Bob Godlewski's drop and run is proof enough for me.

PDQ ~ Their effort isn't about John Mertza and I would urge you to consider your vote for the other guys, nothing says any of us have to pull the lever for Mertz.  If Mertz is their guide, then he's doing a good job ~ but it doesn't mean he gets our vote.  These other guys are a breath of fresh air and as far as including indep minded dems, I believe that was their original intention (though none materialized).

I have said it a million times, I think this was intentionally designed for Mertz to battle it out with the Repubs and open the door for a real competition between McGarry/DelGallo/Tommasone ~ O'Connor/Dileva ~ Littlefield/Dagostino/Vellano.

No matter who wins, one No New Tax Party candidate on the town board or county is a victory.

Just for the record, John has worked as hard as any of us.  If you think about when John has been "controversial" , it's been in the capacity of advocating for the taxpayer.  John has clearly been in some people's sights from the outset but make no mistake about our "intentional design" - this is about curtailing the ever-increasing tax burden and returning the voice to the people where it belongs.

Just filing was a victory.  One of us winning would certainly be a victory too.  But this is no time to hedge your bets...it's all-in time if you want a true victory...a victory for the people.  Pulling the lever for all 4 of us is the bold move.
