CAPITAL REGION Storms keep up assault on area Roads flood, lines fall and forecasters see more of same BY EDWARD MUNGER JR. Gazette Reporters
Thunderstorms pummeled the Capital Region for a second straight day, knocking down power lines and causing area tributaries to swell Wednesday. In Schenectady County, Glenville seemed to bear the worst of Mother Nature’s fury, with wind gusts uprooting trees and torrential rainfall swelling road culverts. Town Public Works Commissioner Rick LeClair said he had three crews clearing fallen branches and trees Wednesday, while he kept a nervous eye on the sky. “It was a fast spurt,” he said Wednesday afternoon. “If we get hit again, we might have a bigger problem.” National Grid reported more than 1,800 customers without power in Schenectady County but anticipated that all of the outages would be fixed by Wednesday evening. At the height of the storm, the company reported 1,644 customers in Glenville without power, including a number of businesses on Route 50 and even Town Hall. Hail the size of quarters also pounded Glenville, according to the National Weather Service. Smaller-sized hail was reported in Charlton, Burnt Hills and Ballston Lake on Wednesday afternoon. ROADS TURN TO RIVERS Heavy late afternoon rains in Saratoga County, especially the southeast part of the county, closed some roads and backed up rush hour traffic on the Northway. The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department said the towns of Clifton Park, Halfmoon and Waterford and the city of Mechanicville were hardest hit by the rain, with some roads in those towns temporarily closed by flooding. Flooded basements were also reported...........>>>>.................>>>>...............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....2&Continuation=1
I heard the mayor of Cohoes had phone calls all day because people had "water in their basements." When I grew up, you bought a sump pump and kept things off the floor of the cellar. Now, you expect the government to fix it, as you do with each and every other malady that afflicts you 24/7/365 without fail. Kind of like those fools who bought a house next to Malta Speedway are upset with noise and dust, and want the town to stop the racing.
I know, I am a scoundrel, go ahead and blast my brains in. I expect it.
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
A LOT OF THIS RAIN IS BECAUSE OF THE POLLUTION AND THE GLOBAL WARMING AND YOU KNOW IT HAS CHANGED THINGS FOR US BUT DONT CARE ABOUT THE FUTURE OF THE KIDS REPUBS

We have a sump pump in our basement that runs pretty much 24/7. We are not surprised and actually have come to expect a flood if and when the pump fails. Which usually happens when we are not home, of course. Depending on how high the water level is, we use both our submergible pump and wet/dry vac.
We do have everything and anything of value on high shelves, tables and pallets. But it is still a pain in the butt and very time consuming when it does happen.
