Rotterdam candidates get into the running
First published in print: Wednesday, June 17, 2009
ROTTERDAM -- Several candidates have entered the supervisor's race while some familiar faces are vying for Town Council.
Incumbent Rotterdam Supervisor Steven Tommasone could face a primary fight for the Conservative Party line endorsement from recently declared candidate Brian McGarry. The political neophyte said he did not seek the Conservative endorsement but is hoping to force a runoff in the primary.

The Democrats recently gave their nod for supervisor to Rotterdam businessman Frank Del Gallo. The Democratic slate for a 4-year Town Board term includes former Councilman Robert Godlewski, Matthew Martin and Nikki Di Leva; incumbent Town Clerk Eunice Esposito wants to hold onto her job despite a GOP challenge from Tommasone's secretary, Lynn Fiorillo. Tomassone, who is vying for his third 2-year-term, has the backing of the Republicans on a ticket that features outgoing Schenectady County Legislator Joseph Suhrada and incumbents Stanley Marchinkowski and Joseph Signore for Town Council.

The path for the Republicans to the November elections is not clear.

Incumbent Town Councilman John Mertz said in a press statement that he plans to wage a primary battle against Signore and Suhrada.

Meantime, newcomer Brad Littlefield of Delanson has announced he plans to seek a seat in District 4 of the County Legislature. He has proposed a property tax cap below the rate of inflation. The district includes Duanesburg, Princetown and Rotterdam.

Littlefield is running without the endorsement of either of the major political parties.

the little girls better go hide since the change is coming and I would not want to be them and have to live in this here town so thor please let them know we mean business and a lot of things will change assessments and all. some will need to mind their business with things at town hall and watch the jobs plus those that dont have the jobs will need to watch the rules of the road and that there and now is the time the right people run the town over here. lets get the sleeves rolled up and put the town back on the track and get people making money again and lets make sure we have the right people in to do the job. The rich cant keep doing this to the people and the repubs need to be punished

Why is it so quiet today on this forum???

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

No, you're not...and you're not the only one that can't afford the taxes that those in power keep throwing at us each and every year.  I haven't been on due to the fact of working MANY extra hours.  Somebody's gotta pay those high Schenectady County taxes...

Yes and when they get to the polls, THROW THOSE BUMS OUT!!!!!!!!!!  What is wrong with Rotterdam residents.
Tommasone has bankrupted this town.  He has thrown money away with two hands while giving favors to his friends and family.  He will be remembered as the most corrupt Supervisor Rotterdam has ever seen.  He is an embarrassment to this town.  And BTW, no respectable Dem should cast a vote for the "Barbie Wanna Be" Holly
Vellano.  Her time on the Rotterdam Council was non-productive.  A perfect fit with Tommasone/Mertz and back room deals.  After a Supervisor with the business acumen of John Paolino, Tommasone looks like a buffoon.

So can anyone tell me exactly what it is that will makes S.T. the most corrupt supervisor? That is a pretty harsh statement to make unless it is backed up with facts. Unless this is just political rhetoric. Other than belonging to a political party that clearly need new leadership....what the heck else is there? And I mean REAL facts. You speak of back room deals. Exactly what back room deals? And please don't tell us about his brother getting his assessment lowered. Cause common sense only tells us that his brother would have NEVER had an increase to begin with if it was based on your family/friend scenario.

As it stands right now, I won't be voting for S.T. based on his support of a taxing district for rems. Actually I won't be voting for any of the 4 that are backing and supporting this taxing district. That is a tax increase no matter how you cut it.

Oh, and BTW, Vell and dago were never an option for me.
IMHO

Thanks Bumble....While I have no party preference at this time. I am leaning towards the people who have a plan for the Town,
not just a hit list of people he wants to remove from the Town.  Beware Town employees, your name could be on this hit list.

I'm voting for mcgarry, so I'm not promoting s.t. or fdg. I am however, repeating what concerns others who have concerns between s.t. or fdg. General concensus....they question the fdg/dem motives. just like mary said....they don't want to elect a 'hit man' or 'dirty election politicking'. So for this reason, s.t. may just pull it off over fdg.
