I recently learned of this benefit afforded to the (part-time) county legislators. It is my understanding that they are awarded lifetime health coverage for themselves and their dependents for serving only a term of four years in office. Can anyone verify this?
When I am elected I will opt out of this benefit if permitted. I don't expect this type of benefit to be paid by the county taxpayers in exchange for what I consider to be community service.
Good government starts at the local level there Mr Bumble. The county seems to be a wee bit more stable than the Town of Rotterdam. I don't believe we have seen the disgraceful, wasteful spending as we have under the the Tomassone Mertz and Signore regime. The core of county government has been essentially left in tact by the Dems.
WTF? The County DEMS have gone hogwild with the oppresssed taxpayers money. Lumpy Kosiur was given a make work position. They have hired dozens of patronage lobs. That's why we need Littlefield AND Suhrada as County taxpayer watchdogs.
Rotterdam is run efficiently in comparison. No it's not perfect. The core of County government has grown by leaps and bounds under these KRATS. Metrograft's ripoffs would fill this whole page. Where does gasbag Godlewski fit into all this? If he's the solution what's the problem? The biggest problem is the COUNTY and runaway COUNTY TAXES that are added to your property taxes. Going up another 18% next year!
Mr Salami you are way too emotional and seem to have a personal interests in county affairs. Please illustrate for me how you can state that Rotterdam is run "efficiently?" Please I am all ears. The assessment department is better? The comptroller's office isnt a bastion of political patronage? The senior center is run by the wife of the Past President of the CSEA union. The Public Works Department is run by a true political "hack." Tomassone Mertz and Signore are your typical "ole boys" who deal in backroom politics with Mr Parisi and Mr. Buchanan.

I'd agree on the back room deals but Mertz isn't in on it he's on the outs because he questioned where $250,000 earmarked for Masullo Estates was spent and that was the beginning of the end for him.
It must have been moved into offshore accounts in the Caymans.

The Town went to hell when Tomassone Signore and Mertz started calling the shots. Constantino has been long gone, voter turnout has been less than 50% and the tax rate has soared. Combined Tomassone and Signore tax rate increases? How bout approaching over 50%. Explain to me why this gang of three has kept around "connected" town employees who are dismal public servants at best? It's called QUID PRO QUO and this gang of three know how to do it.

I spoke this evening with one of the Schenectady County Legislators who assured me that what I had heard (see above) is not the case. I was told that Legislators can purchase insurance through the county. However, the report that they receive lifetime health coverage for serving only a 4 year term is inaccurate.
