FBI raids Silipigno offices in Saratoga Springs Dozens of agents swarm headquarters of ex-con businessman

SARATOGA SPRINGS - Nearly three dozen FBI agents raided the work offices of David Silipigno today, confiscating computers, filing cabinets, financial records and DVDs, officials with knowledge of the investigation said.
About 35 FBI agents started sweeping through Silipigno's ShopWurld offices in the Rip Van Dam building on Broadway this morning.
A white FBI van and U-Haul truck that was being used to transport materials taken from the building were parked in the lot behind the former hotel.
The agent at the rear door would not comment on who or what was being investigated. But authorities who asked not to be identified because they were not permitted to release information about the case said agents were investigating Silipigno's business dealings.
Silipigno, 39, is a wealthy city resident who pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud charges in 2003. He was charged with scheming to steer millions from creditors into the accounts of his Halfmoon-based mortgage lender National Finance Corp. and was sentenced to probation by U.S. District Judge Thomas J. So if this guy was running a 'pyramid scam'....was it really really necessary to haul in 35 FBI Agents? I mean come on here! We have more scams and crime going on in Schenectady and not '1' FBI agent is checking! It's ridiculous! IMHO

ShopWurld leaders said in a conference call Thursday night that David Silipigno’s former mortgage business was the target of a high-profile FBI raid earlier this week. They also discussed changing the name of the multilevel marketing venture to distance ShopWurld from the negative publicity. In an evening conference call whose date, time and access code were published on the online shopping Web site Tuesday before being taken down later in the week, three leaders discussed the effect of the FBI search on ShopWurld and called it a “witch hunt” against Silipigno by authorities and the media. “I’ve seen many people’s reputations ruined because of careless reporting, and that especially happens with smalltime newspapers,” said Jack Schacht, an options trader from Warrenville, Ill., who said he had talked with Silipigno and others on Tuesday, the day of the search. “There’s also possibly some people in the local area that would like to see David go down,” said Bob King, a Novak Financial Group adviser from Clifton Park who usually moderates the calls. ..................>>>>................>>>>...............>>>>...................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....4&Continuation=1
