Hold the headlines on ‘anti-gov’t material’

I was surprised and disappointed by the lead headline of the May 22 Saratoga edition, “Anti-gov’t material found in man’s arrest.” This is the type of headline I would expect to see in government-run newspapers in totalitarian countries, not in independent newspapers in democratic countries, and especially not in the United States.
You must be aware of the First Amendment, and the fact that possession of “anti-government material” is not a violation of any law. It is quite shocking to see that our understanding of basic civil liberties has fallen to the point where writers at major newspapers believe possession of such material deserves to be reported at all, much less in a top-of-the-page headline.

It's just the liberal press following their belief that anyone who has a different opinion than they do is either anti-government or racist.

Free speech was not designed to protect 'polite', 'politically correct' speech. It was actually created to protect the right of 'offensive' 'politically incorrect' speech.

Polite speech, obviously, did not need to be protected.

Report certain info only when relevant to story

I agree with Victor Roberts’ June 5 letter, “Hold the headlines on ‘anti-gov’t material.’” I have noticed that reporters (including the Gazette) will add information to their reports that has no relevance to the story.
In his letter Mr. Roberts points out that in an article printed by the Gazette, when a man was arrested “anti-government material” was found, and he noted that possession of such material is not against the law and is protected by the First Amendment. It certainly is. So why include this information if no law has been broken?
The problem I have has to do with our Second Amendment rights. I have noticed in some articles concerning the arrest of individuals that the reporter will add the fact that the police found “shotguns and rifles” during the arrest. Yeah, so? There is no mention that the person had them illegally. Nothing was said about the long guns being modified in any way to make them illegal, or if they were stolen, used in the act of another crime or were even loaded. The guns were just there.
What is the point of this type of reporting? Are we to assume that because this person owns long guns, that he must be guilty of the crime for which he was arrested; or in the matter of possessing anti-government material, are we to think that this person is any less patriotic than anyone else?
As an American citizen, if you choose to, you have the right to read Mao’s Little Red Book or Hitler’s “Mein Kampf,” and legally own as many shotguns and rifles that you can afford to buy (even in the state of New York). So why are these statements included?

The liberal media just loves to print information like that because to them anti government means anti Obama, their chosen one, and guns are evil whether they are legal or not. In a feeble effort to get more people to read their paper, which is slanted to the left so far no one will read it, the paper will sensationalize every story they can to improve the circulation IMHO.

We the people can demonstrate and take legal action against our government when said government fails to follow the Constitution to which they all took an oath to uphold.

Be careful Sal there are a lot of people out there that fit that description. Remember when Senders always says, those with the guns control the masses.
