SCHENECTADY — Trustees of the Schenectady Museum & Suits-Bueche Planetarium may scale back their ambitious dream to create a technology center in the county, depending on whether the museum receives federal stimulus money for the project. Former board president Neil Levine said trustees may consider a less expensive option that would involve adapting an existing building for the technology center, rather than building a $75 million, four-story, 114,000-square-foot facility. That concept was developed five years ago but has never approached fruition. “We have other options that might well allow us to do almost all that we want to do for close to half to two-thirds the cost,” Levine said. “It won’t be scaled back in terms of programs, exhibits or in terms of space, just a less expensive option.” The direction the board takes depends on whether it can secure federal stimulus money. Schenectady Mayor Brian U. Stratton submitted a $55 million request on behalf of the museum, the largest item on his list. The museum has also submitted requests to state agencies that have received stimulus money and are working out ways to distribute it. Another never ending joke. The stimulus pork was announced and Son of Sam got a lump of coal. This museum is a disgrace. Can't run festivals-never should have been located on the Nott Terrace High fields-gave art to Glens Falls. So crowded nobody goes there anymore? Even Obama saw through it.
'federal stimulus money'....give me a break! This should be done with private donations NOT tax dollars!
