Oh, I agree 100% that they should make *SOME* contribution - monetary or otherwise. I do *not* think that it should be 50% of whatever they make.
I dunno how I feel about this. If NYC is going into the landlord / tenant business, fine, do it. Put them in "projects", subsidized housing. If they're in a homeless shelter, it should be temporary, and if they're working should be contributing. On one hand, I don't think they SHOULD be in the landlord business. On the other hand, they should, if possible contribute financially. The third hand is saying "Hey, I gotta pay for rent, why shouldn't they" - but that'd make me sound like a cold heartless monster for not helping out the homeless.
Catch 22 - but either way, 50% is excessive. |
