About 2 weeks ago, my wife called me frantic that someone was at the front door - identifying himself as a Census worker.  She realized the Census wasn't until 2010.  He said all he was doing was counting residences, and left.  He did have an ID badge, and I called the PD to verify this (he scared the sh*t outta my wife). They confirmed that Census workers were in the area and that everything was "cool".

Now, I'm not a big conspiracy theorist. I do realize that "Big Brother" exists, but frankly, I live by the adage that I've got nothing to hide, so what "they" do doesn't bother me. Tap my phone - if you wanna hear my mother bitching about how her grass wasn't cut correctly, or how I'm not around enough to help her pressure wash the house - fine.  Monitor my air travel - I don't really care, maybe you're just jealous - or maybe a lot of terrorists vacation in Ft. Lauderdale or Dallas or Chicago. Doesn't really matter to me, I don't have anything to hide.

But, this story has me a bit unnerved.  Now I know WHY they were at our door. I'll be the first to admit that WND is a FAR right wing group, everything has a slant, but the facts are the facts, adults can read through the political slant,  BUT - read for yourself: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=97208

Not being happy with WND as the ONLY source, I Google'd for more information.  Yes, the story is true. No doubt about that part. The part that surprised me was that this program was instituted during the GW Bush administration (2006): http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5590541

Apparently, this has been making the rounds on the net for a while, but I never realized it till someone knocked on my door and this story in WND came out.

Scary, aint it?

Did anyone know that the collecting census data is now under the executive branch? Talk about scary!!!
And that all the questions above & beyond ‘how many people live here’? are unconstitutional?

I consider the ACORN census takers to be the equivalent of the NAZI blockwort. If you are not familiar with the term, then look it up. Sniffing around, asking questions and threatening you with penalty of law should you not comply with their brown shirted authority vested by the anointed genius in chief. You know where they can go.

"Oh an NRA bumper sticker? duly noted." Oh, a republican lawn sign? duly noted." "Gee wiz, all white people in this house? Duly noted." "Let's GPS this one for the einsatzgruppen."

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

The minorities have been put down so long it doesnt matter how things will be in the next few year ver here since the treatment needs to reverse a little to straighten the things out

I guess you weren't around in the 60's to appreciate the civil rights movement. Things are as straightened out as the minorities want them to be. We have gays, straights, blacks, hispanics and women in our government. What else needs to be straightened out?

And yes, GB, it is an ACORN census!

I guess you can spin it however you want ? But  I say it goes back to the fact that Bushes administration lawyers committed what will be known as " serious lapses iof judgment in writting memorandums " allowing the the government to EAVESDROP-   so get used to people dropping by-

I agree with you on this one. I didn't approve of Bush's eavesdropping then either. And for this very reason. I knew it wouldn't stop there. And it didn't.

EXCLUSIVE: Minn. lawmaker vows not to complete Census
By Stephen Dinan (Contact) | Wednesday, June 17, 2009

Outspoken Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann says she's so worried that information from next year's national census will be abused that she will refuse to fill out anything more than the number of people in her household.

In an interview Wednesday morning with The Washington Times "America's Morning News," Mrs. Bachmann, Minnesota Republican, said the questions have become "very intricate, very personal" and she also fears ACORN, the community organizing group that came under fire for its voter registration efforts last year, will be part of the Census Bureau's door-to-door information collection efforts.

"I know for my family the only question we will be answering is how many people are in our home," she said. "We won't be answering any information beyond that, because the Constitution doesn't require any information beyond that."

Shelly Lowe, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Census Bureau, said Mrs. Bachmann is "misreading" the law.

The Washington Times America's Morning News (interview with Rep. Michele Bachmann)
She sent a portion of the U.S. legal code that says anyone over 18 years of age who refuses to answer "any of the questions" on the census can be fined up to $5,000.

The Constitution requires a census be taken every 10 years. Questions range from number of persons in the household and racial information to employment status and whether anyone receives social services such as food stamps.

Mrs. Bachmann said she's worried about the involvement of ACORN, the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now, in next year's census.

"They will be in charge of going door to door and collecting data from the American public," she said. "This is very concerning."

ACORN has applied to help recruit workers to help conduct the census. Republican lawmakers and some public interest groups have expressed concern over their involvement.

ACORN staffers have ben indicted in several states on charges of voter registration fraud stemming from the organization's efforts to register voters last year.

Mrs. Bachmann, who is in her second term in the House, has become a lightning rod for criticism from Democrats and liberal talk show hosts for her unapologetic conservative views.

She said she considers that "a badge of honor."

"It's clear when a person speaks out against those policies they become a target, and that should be concerning to everyone," she said

I think that each state should be responsible for collecting the census info for their own state. Which after it is completed, could be given to the feds.

Actually, with 800,000+ people unemployed in NYS alone, give them the job.

I understand your reasoning, but this is a federal issue, not a state one.  It's actually written in the Constitution, although I must say that our representation in the House is GREATLY under what the Founding Fathers would expect.

http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/constitution_transcript.html (Article 1, Section 2, Paragraph 3)
Quoted Text
The Number of Representatives shall not exceed one for every thirty Thousand, but each State shall have at Least one Representative;

By this, with 300,000,000 people now in the country, the House of Representatives should now have 10,000 Representatives to truly be represented the way the Founding Fathers believed would be appropriate.

CAPITAL REGION
Minority census count effort starts
NAACP chapters to push for participation

BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter

Three Capital Region chapters of the NAACP are stepping up efforts to ensure minorities are counted in the 2010 Census more accurately than they were 10 years ago.
Chapters of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, representing Albany, Saratoga and Schenectady counties, announced Monday the creation of an “African-American Complete Count Committee” in cooperation with the U.S. Census Bureau.
The committee will conduct outreach and awareness campaigns in minority communities, designed to ensure as many residents of these communities as possible return the 2010 Census questionnaire, said Paul Webster, president of the Schenectady County chapter of the NAACP.
Questionnaires will be mailed to every address in the United States starting March 15.
“There are far more African-American males in this nation than were ever identified,” Webster said. .............>>>>...................>>>>.................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00702&AppName=1
