Whatever happened to just judging them based on how well they looked in a bikini - that was the america i loved!!

this is another step in people becoming afraid to express their true opinions, and rights to free speech.  This girl lost points becuase she didnt respond to a homosexuals question the way he wanted.  Whether you support something or not, in this country you have the right to free speech without persecution

this is what happens when your opinions differ....

is it right for people to be bullied and made to feel guilty, in order to get some groups agenda passed???

Miss North Carolina Kristen Dalton was crowned Miss USA on Sunday, but the big story to come out of the normally politics-free telecast was Miss California's comments regarding gay marriage.

When asked by judge Perez Hilton, an openly gay gossip blogger, whether she believed in gay marriage, Miss California, Carrie Prejean, said "We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."

Keith Lewis, who runs the Miss California competition, tells FOXNews.com that he was "saddened" by Prejean's statement.

"As co-director of the Miss California USA, I am personally saddened and hurt that Miss California believes marriage rights belong only to a man and a woman," said Lewis in a statement. "I believe all religions should be able to ordain what unions they see fit. I do not believe our government should be able to discriminate against anyone and religious beliefs have no politics in the Miss California family."

PHOTOS: Pics from last night's controversial show.

Co-director Shanna Moakler said that she fully supported Lewis' statement.

But Prejean told FOXNews.com that she has "no regrets" and is "happy" with the answer she gave.

PHOTOS: 10 beauty pageant scandals from years past.

Miss California's answer sparked a shouting match in the lobby after the show. "It's ugly," said Scott Ihrig, a gay man, who attended the pageant with his partner. "I think it's ridiculous that she got first runner-up. That is not the value of 95 percent of the people in this audience. Look around this audience and tell me how many gay men there are."

Charmaine Koonce, the mother of Miss New Mexico USA Bianca Matamoros-Koonce, argued back.

YOU DECIDE: Did Miss California's answer cost her the crown?

"In the Bible it says marriage is between Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve!"

The pageant had enjoyed a scandal-free year until earlier this month, when Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza was skewered for a blog posting from a trip to Guantanamo Bay. The entry described having "aloooot of fun" at a base that houses the notorious military prison; it was later deleted from the pageant's Web site.

POP TARTS: More on Miss California's "gay marriage answer" controversy.

The winner, Miss North Carolina Kristen Dalton, a 22-year-old aspiring motivational speaker and entertainer from Wilmington, edged out first runner-up Miss California, and second runner-up Miss Arizona USA Alicia-Monique Blanco, of Phoenix.

"It feels really natural," Dalton said of her win. "I've worked so be here and this has been my lifelong dream and it's finally here. And whoever knew you could win in a turquoise gown?"

VIDEO: Did Miss California make a big mistake?

Contestants from all 50 states and the District of Columbia competed in the pageant, aired live on NBC. Contestants were judged by their performance in swimsuit and evening gown modeling contests and their responses to a question asked onstage; unlike the rival Miss America pageant, Miss USA contestants do not perform a talent.

The top 15 contestants worked the stage in white string bikinis designed by pop star Jessica Simpson's swimwear line. Rocker Kevin Rudolf performed his song "Let it Rock," followed by The Veronicas, who performed their single "Untouched" as the top 10 beauties showed off their choice of glittering evening gowns.

Dalton's was a flowing, blue Grecian number that stood out among a series of white gowns.

Her title comes with a year's use of a New York apartment, a public relations team, a two-year scholarship at the New York Film Academy and an undisclosed salary.

She also will go to the Bahamas in August to compete in the Miss Universe pageant, where American beauties haven't been lucky in recent years. Both Miss USA 2008 Crystle Stewart and her predecessor, Rachel Smith, wiped out on stage during the evening gown competition, becoming accidental YouTube stars.

I don't watch Miss USA, but I just saw the video from youtube. Of course Mr. Hilton would have been against Miss California....he was obviously, to me, gay! And Mr. Hilton did have a point. IF Miss California had only said what he thought she should have....she would have then been 'politically correct'. AND she would not have been voicing her own opinion. I mean God, it's not like she is running for the leader of a country who will influence and created laws. IT IS JUST FLUFF!!!

May I also say, that Miss America has become nothing more than a spin off from hollywood. From hair extensions, to fake boobs, to layers of makeup. Some of these girls will probably get calls from playboy. Wholesome? HARDLY!

But I will say 'Bravo' to miss california for standing up for what she believes in.

So just so I get this straight....Ms. California loses the crown cause she openly stated that she believes marriage should be between one man and one woman, right?

Obama openly stated, while campaigning, that he believes marriage should be between one man and one woman....AND WON THE PRESIDENCY.

Am I missing something here?

Nope, that's it in a nutshell.

Gotta love it.

I believe she should have every right to voice her opinions and beliefs as she understands them.  To ask or demand she answer any other way is wrong.

She did act on her right to voice her opinion and beliefs as she and the majority of society does look at gay marriage. They did not demand her to answer any other way. However, it cost her. But strangely enough, it didn't cost obama when he stated the very same thing.

In the scope of life, it is only a stupid beauty pageant!! The only thing it did this year, was show how anyone who expresses their anti-gay marriage belief, is chastised for it. Let me see...ummmm.....I believe she was called a bi**h and a 'c'.  Ah yup, I guess gay marriage brings out the best in some, huh?

Donald Trump ousts Prejean as Miss California
Published - Jun 10 2009 05:10PM EDT
By JOHN ROGERS - Associated Press Writer

Miss California USA Carrie Prejean, who stirred up trouble for herself when she said gays shouldn't be allowed to marry, got two dreaded words from pageant poobah Donald Trump on Wednesday: "You're fired." Trump and other pageant leaders said Prejean was being sacked not because of the remarks but because she hadn't been holding up her end of the agreement she signed when she entered the pageant.

"Carrie is a beautiful young woman and I wish her well as she pursues her other interests," Trump said.

Prejean spokeswoman Melany Ethridge declined to comment, saying she hadn't been able to reach the former beauty queen since the announcement of her ouster.

"This was a decision based solely on contract violations, including Ms. Prejean's unwillingness to make appearances on behalf of the Miss California USA organization," the California pageant's executive director, Keith Lewis, said in a statement.

He had complained at a news conference last month that Prejean was skipping Miss California USA events while speaking out against gay marriage at unsanctioned appearances.

After the complaints reached Trump, who owns Miss California USA's parent organization, the mogul decided to give her a second chance and keep her on. On Wednesday, he changed his mind.

"I told Carrie she needed to get back to work and honor her contract with the Miss California USA Organization and I gave her the opportunity to do so," Trump said in a statement. "Unfortunately it just doesn't look like it is going to happen."

Pageant officials said Prejean would be replaced by the Miss California pageant's first runner-up, Tami Farrell, 24, who was crowned Miss Teen USA in 2003. They had announced last month that Farrell was being named a special ambassador to fill in for Prejean at any events she didn't attend.

During the Miss USA competition, Prejean was first runner-up after answering a judge's question about gay marriage by saying wedding vows should be reserved for men and women.

"No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised," she said.........>>>>.............>>>>...................>>>>................http://www.rr.com/entertainmen.....n_as_Miss_California

Perhaps she will be the next Mrs. Donald Trump. He's about ready for a change, isn't he?

Who cares who won? Carrie Prejean, is already a commentator on Fox News. Her supposed "controversial" remarks are the majority opinion in California, NYS and in the USA. They used to be considered common sense.

She is beautiful, intelligent and articulate. Bravo to Carrie Prejean for sticking to her beliefs, her church, her upbringing and not being bullied by the idiots temporarily running the main stream media into the ground.
