If Mr. Tedisco ends up the winner in the Congressional race, who will succeed him as the NYS Assemblyman in the 110th district?

Vote for James Tedisco if you believe that Mr. Murphy will emerge victorious and Tedisco will remain in his current position.

Tedisco vs.
Murphy: Talk about close!

What have we here? An election for Congress in which the candidates are separated by just 25 votes out of 154,409 cast, which by my calculation translates into 16 thousandths of 1 percent.
The candidates — Jim Tedisco, Republican, and Scott Murphy, Democrat — have got to be thinking, Oh, if I had slung just one more mudball I might have reached 25 more people. Or Tedisco might be thinking, Oh, if only I lived in the district I could have voted for myself and narrowed the gap a little.
But that’s finished. The election will be decided by absentee ballots, of which 10,162 were issued and 6,381 had been returned (but not yet counted) by early yesterday afternoon when I checked with the state Board of Elections.
Absentee ballots must be received by next Tuesday to be valid, or by the following Tuesday, April 13, if they come from military personnel or federal employees serving overseas.
Bob Brehm, spokesman for the Board of Elections, tells me 1,001 absentee ballots went out to military personnel and 875 to overseas federal employees, so it’s fair to assume the election won’t be decided at least until April 13, when those ballots are opened and counted.
So we have here a genuine cliffhanger, which to me is amazing considering that Republicans outnumber Democrats 3 to 2 in the congressional district, and the Republican candidate, Jim Tedisco, is well-known, having been active in politics for some 30 years, while the Democratic candidate, Murphy, is a virgin, making his fi rst run for elected office.
A handicapper like me would have favored Tedisco to win in a walk, which indeed I did. I figured it would be no contest, or at least that’s what I figured at the beginning, before poll numbers started coming in.
    What happened?
Well, for one thing the healthcare workers’ union, 1199 SEIU, bombarded voters with hardhitting if misleading ads about Tedisco’s record, painting him as an out-of-touch career politician, which to my mind were more effective than Republican State Committee ads implausibly tying Murphy to the AIG giveaway.
For another, I think a lot of people remain mighty disillusioned with the Republican performance in Washington over the last four or eight years and blame Republican philosophy for our current economic collapse.
Do we want to send another Republican to Washington to cheerlead for the Newt Gingrich side and blow raspberries at President Obama? That might have been a consideration.
After all, the district did elect a Democrat (Kirsten Gillibrand) in the last two elections despite the Republicans’ enrollment advantage. ................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....amp;EntityId=Ar01301

Can't they effectively wait until election night to see who "won" - and then potentially tip the election based on "incentives", "being intimidated" or "for profit" motives?

Why isn't there a set time - they must be postmarked by ... or  received by a date PRIOR to the physical election?  Why does voting effectively continue for 2 weeks AFTER the actual election day, dragging this on further and further?

Anyone?

I would like to see another person, other than those mentioned here, running for assemblyman. These guys/girls do not impress me. I'd like to see fresh faces andnew ideas in all of politics.

MT, absentee ballots must be postmarked the day before the election.  For regular ballots, they must be received by the board SEVEN days after the election in order to be counted.  But they must be postmarked BEFORE.

As far as military ballots are concerned, I would guess that the SEVEN day after the election limit is extended, and that's why they are waiting until the 13th...but I'm not sure.

Slight problemo Son of Sam does not live in this Assembly District and its not a Federal race. By the way Lefty, if Son of Sam is so popular why didn't he run for Congress in the 21st CD? Cause he would have finished dead last in the Dem primary-to Paul Tonko! He should be elected dog catcher. After Jimmy wins Congressman, James Buhrmaster will win for Assemblyman.

Mr. B State Elections spokeman? Is he the guy that Jimmy caught red handed ripping down his signs?
