Treat minority party with respect today, or be it tomorrow
Schenectady County Democrats say they want the public’s input on controversial plans to build a new nursing home, but it appears that’s only true if you’re a Democrat. Why else would they have scheduled the sole public hearing on the plan for the night of the Republicans’ annual Lincoln Day dinner? Democrats on the Legislature’s Human Services and Aging subcommittee on Glendale Home — and there are no Republicans on it — say they didn’t know the dinner was being held this Thursday when they scheduled their forum, but frankly, that’s hard to believe. The dinner is the Republicans’ annual fundraising event, held at the Glen Sanders Mansion, and is scheduled months in advance. The Republicans notified the Democrats last week, as soon as they realized the meeting had been scheduled, but leaders refused to change the date. It’s not only discourteous, but bad for the process: The more public participation, the better the final product is likely to be. Unfortunately, that’s not the way Democrats in Schenectady County tend to see things, and this isn’t the first evidence of that. Last fall, those running the city and county governments scheduled public budget hearings at the same time on the same night! And it wasn’t the first time for that, either. Democrats probably won’t control government in Schenectady County forever, especially given behavior like this, which tends to alienate nonpartisan voters. WOW!! If you live long enough anything is possible. Bravo Gazetto Editors.
Of course it was done on purpose. Of course they didn't let Joe S lead the pledge {one of the few veterans} on purpose. This mirrors my earlier post on our Nursing Home thread. Sal, defended this partisan behavior. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. If there is no County Legislature opponent, write someone in. This must start from the ground up.
I'm pleasantly surprised that the gazette printed it too!
As politics go.....I wonder how 'nice' the reps were to the dems when they were in control? Perhaps that is why the dems are so nasty to the reps now, huh? The only thing is that these political parties become so hell bent on screwing each other over that they seem to lose sight of 'us the taxpayers'!

The Reps were too nice. The County Manager was an Ind. Peter G went out of his way to include everyone. Once the Dems took control everything changed. They don't even inform the Reps of meetings. They dismiss thoughtful budget considerations that would save us millions. This everyone did this is more disinformation.
To the victor goes the spoils but at least pretend to listen. The blame for this horrible partisan policy must be laid directly at Sue Savage's feet. To think she wants to run for Congress or Assembly? Give us a break-run in Auburn, NY not here! It will take years to undo all her damage.
duh,,,,regardless of party.....dorks.....they should know better.....yeah, they will own it and the results...be they good, bad or ugly......no going back now.....this is their pledge via an arbitrator---The Gazette.......

When politicians put party first, the people wind up losers
The Feb. 11 editorial, “Treat minority party with respect...” outlined the problem with partisan politics. This approach to policy development and/or decision making only divides and conquers. Partisan politics place party loyalty over the welfare of the residents in the county, cities and towns. Partisan politics do not accommodate the ideas of others. This political style has caused many of the problems now facing our nation. Everyone suffers, and in the end, there are no winners. The Democrats on the county level should never have conducted the public hearing [on the new nursing home] on the same night as the Republicans’ annual fund-raising event. A change in date for the public hearing would not have been difficult to do. We are facing enormous challenges. We need to have all voices heard, because “a house divided will not stand.”
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
Don’t expect Dems to know GOP’s erratic fundraising schedule
Re Feb. 11 editorial, “Treat minority party with respect ...” and Linda Rizzo’s Feb. 25 letter, “When politicians put party first, the people wind up losers”: Minority Leader Robert T. Farley and his caucus chose to attend a political social event instead of a hearing on the future of the Glendale Home. Incredibly, Republican legislators cried foul when the county Legislature refused to move the hearing to accommodate the GOP fundraising and social calendar. First, scheduling the hearing on Lincoln Day could not have been a purposeful attempt to create a conflict for the Republicans. History actually shows, prior to 2009, that the safest day of the year to schedule something to avoid conflicting with the Republicans’ misnomered Lincoln Day fundraiser would actually be Lincoln’s Birthday. In 2008 the event was held on Feb. 7. In 2007, the date was Feb. 27. And in 2006, the GOP celebrated Lincoln Day for fundraising purposes in late summer. Before this, the “Lincoln Day dinner” was often held in May or June. During all this time, of course, Lincoln’s birthday never once changed from Feb. 12. So unless you were invited to the event, it would not be at all0 reasonable to know the Republicans would be having their heretofore misnamed fundraiser on the right day for the first time in perhaps a decade. As for not moving the hearing, the issue is priorities. Last year, the county Democrats’ annual JFK dinner conflicted with a meeting of Democratic Schenectady City Council members and the Democratic mayor. The council members and mayor did what public servants should do: They went to their meeting and conducted the people’s business. Legislator Farley, immune to this good example, proudly led his delegation to a fundraiser while residents of the Glendale Home came out to speak about their future, share their fears, offer their hopes, give insights into their care, and provide hospitality in their home. Legislator Farley chose wrong yet again. The Democratic County Legislature rightly insisted listening to the people, particularly those whose voices are too often unheard.

Now it is the wicked and evil Republicans who are fault. Funny how that was turned around so quick, makes me think that was the plan all along- to schedule the thing at the exact time when the GOP members WOULDN'T be able to attend, so it can be said they hate the elderly and the needy (ever hear THAT before? and don't give a hoot about anyone else.

The Kratz didn't listen to the seniors. They wouldn't have listened to the REPS. They refuse to listen to the anguished cries of overtaxed residents. Mr. Q thinks high taxes are great. And a 10% increase in a recession is better.
Mr. Farley has been very clear on this. We need to get out of the Nursing Home business and turn it over to a non-profit. Like Montgomery County did. The Kratz are masterful at turning this issue around. Nobody is saying close the home-let a non-profit run it. It's all about patronage-lobs are falling over themselves at the County Building so the Kratz must keep the white elephant home as a secondary landing zone. Nobody cares-nobody says nuthin-nobody says this is a ripoff that we can no longer afford.
OBAMA WANTS TO REPLACE HOSPITALS WITH COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS. DEMOCRATS WANT TO BUILD MORE SENIOR NURSING HOMES TO SUPPORT THEIR "WORKING FAMILIES" CHARADE. LOOK AT THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE WORKING FAMILIES PARTY STATE LEADERS, ACORN, OBAMA, NYS DEMOCRATS, AND THEN PUT YOUR THINKING CAP ON AND YOU'LL FIND SS AND THE DEM BRIGADE IN SCHENECTADY WANT THE BUILDING TO ENSURE THEY HAVE THE SUPPORT OF THE "WORKING FAMILIES" AT THE EXPENSE OF THE TAXPAYING FAMILIES.
