Beyond sad-St Mary's is an architectural treasure. Could not be rebuilt today at any price. Old world stone masons, looks like a European Church. Too bad it could not be saved as a mission or Catholic learning center. That entire neighborhood {lower Eastern Ave} is devastated and this will not help matters.

What's actually surprising is that St Joseph's Church downtown isn't closing. My chuch (building) is affected by these closures and some are taking it VERY hard.

The Catholic "bashers" must be having a field day with this news tonight.

In Adams Massachusetts, the followers are in so much shock, disbelief, that they're actually taking over the building http://timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=760734

It's not about Roman Catholic.....but someone needs to get the catholic church back in mainstream America......that is the gold thread in our
fabric that is missing.......

Decades ago, when the European Immigrants came to this country, the majority were Catholic. Churches sprung up everywhere! And they were all full. That generation has since died off. Churches of all denominations are not as full as they once were. Now it is time for Mosques and Hindu Temples to be built and filled. Times change!
