CAPITOL Paterson proposes extended coverage Dependents up to age 29 to be eligible The Associated Press
New York Gov. David Paterson wants to extend private family health insurance coverage to dependents up to age 29. The proposal he will introduce Wednesday in his State of the State message would apply to families who have coverage through employers. Although New York doesn’t require companies to cover dependents, it’s common for employer-paid programs to extend to children through at least age 18, and through age 22 if they’re attending college. If Paterson’s plan passes the Legislature, family coverage would extend to children until they are 29 — regardless of whether they attend college. “Currently, one third of all of the uninsured in the State are young adults between the age of 19 and 29,” Paterson said in a written statement. “As these young people move away from home and into careers they lose their family coverage. I am proposing legislation that will allow these young adults to remain on their parents’ insurance plans.” The legislation would not cost the state or employers offering private insurance any extra money, because families would pay for it like a COBRA benefit, but at a significantly reduced price under a group policy. COBRA is a program that allows a departing employee to remain under the employer’s health plan by paying the full premium cost. Based on similar actions in New Jersey, Paterson anticipates families paying between 20 and 40 percent less than current COBRA rates. “We’ve been interested in groups like the governor is talking about — the so called young invincibles,” said Leslie Moran of the New York Health Plan Association, a trade group that represents managed care companies. “Obviously we are looking forward to seeing the details of the proposals — but on the face of it, what we like is that the proposal looks to expand coverage through the private insurance market versus relying on ...................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....amp;EntityId=Ar01402

Why? Let them learn how to do it on their own......geez.....that is soooo ridiculous......as it is, there are a bunch of 25-30somethings that live in and out of their parents homes.....latching on to cell phones, credit cards, using heating, cable, doing laundry, car insurance and not really much of their own thing......
I'm sorry....I totally disagree here......
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
STOP BEING GOOD DEMOCRATS---STOP BEING GOOD REPUBLICANS--START BEING GOOD AMERICANS
It's time for them to grow up and make responsible decisions and get health-care insurance instead of cable tv, new car, a house they can't afford, a boat, and all the rest of the toys that they want now.
This is just another ploy by the dems to make the youth learn to become dependent on the government as they grow-up. And it's not all that simple. Who is going to fill out the paperwork for a cobra? Mommy or Daddy! Who will maintain the paper work? The employer! Who is going to pay the Cobra? Mommy or Daddy? Who is going to make sure the employer gets it's Cobra check every month? Mommy or Daddy?
The insurance companies are gonna love this flow of revenue!
