Snow has arrived. Hang on to your hats.

Snow began falling just at noon this afternoon. "It very quickly became moderate to heavy," meteorologist George Maglaras said. Visibility has already been lowered to between a quarter and half a mile. Meteorologists are predicting snow to fall two to three inches per hour this afternoon into the evening.

The storm should dump five to 10 inches by 7 p.m.

Then the fun really starts.

After 7 p.m., between three and six more inches should fall.

Things should calm down on Saturday, but the mercury won't get higher than low 20s.

And on Sunday, we're looking at possibly more than seven more inches of snow again

Bottom line: If you ski, enjoy the ..............http://timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=752281

That's gonna make for an interesting ride home for State workers (and those that just go there for their coffee breaks)

T-Way is closed from 25A to 25 Eastbound only ATM.  There are several accidents, including a significant one with a tractor-trailer.

This just sucks.  I have to go to Amsterdam for a wake and service tonight.

My husband just called me from his cell phone. He was on Altamont Ave. going about 2mph, and he said it was bumper to bumper. He usually comes home on Campbell Road by the Rotterdam Mall. But he said that cars couldn't make it up Putnum Rd or Campbell Rd. So he turned around, got on 890, got off at Michigan Ave and is coming home via Altamont Ave. That was a half hour ago.

I was over to Lowes on Balltown Rd this afternoon and Altamont Ave was backed up all the way to Chrysler Ave. I took the back way home over Cheltingham Ave and got home much faster, boy I like my 4x4.

I just came in - been out most of the day.  I don't think I've seen roads in this bad a condition in a long time.  Rt 7 itself is fine - the intersecting streets (Union, Balltown) are awful.

Balltown out past the JCC is in rough shape.
Side streets off Union are bad
Helderberg Ave is clear - side streets haven't been touched

They've got a lot of cleanup to do

Well I remember ( I have pics to prove it  ) -when  I was younger- much younger If the snow was up to my knees- I still WALKED TO SCHOOL- Up to the waist- then no school.  Now this was only Yates Village to Yates school.

If we ever have a REAL  snow storm like the old  days - it will be a  real problem-

... Winter Storm Watch now in effect from late tonight through
Monday morning...

The Winter Storm Watch is now in effect from late tonight through
Monday morning.

Another winter storm could potentially provide greater than 7
inches of snow across the Adirondacks... Lake George Saratoga
region and southern Vermont late tonight into Monday morning.
Furthermore... winds will increase and may provide considerable
blowing and drifting of the snow and bitterly cold wind chills.
Lastly... lake effect enhancement could bring higher totals of snow
to portions of the Adirondacks Sunday night into early Monday
morning.

Snow fall rates on Sunday could exceed 1 inch per hour.

This storm was developing over the Southern Plains states and will
quickly move to the Tennessee Valley tonight. This storm will
redevelop off the middle Atlantic coast Sunday morning and become
a nor Easter through Sunday and Sunday night.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant
snow... sleet... or ice accumulations that may impact travel.
Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.

But back then, when we were kids, the snow wasn't really THAT high. We were just shorter!
