First I wish Mr. Buffardi the best.

Second, I'd be curious to see if Mr. Buffardi's part time teaching position at SCCC suddenly became full time. Or is he filling a vacancy?  Or is this a created/new position?

Third, the dems are securing their future in local politics, Metroplex, DSIC, business and non-profits so they will NEVER be the minority again!! The dems have injected themselves in every aspect of this county. It will be a long tough road to un-seat them. Schenectady County has too many sheeple.

It's FULLTIME, he has been teaching there part time for many years. BT is on the money again. Don't forget to add the horrible Chamber of Commerce {worst in State}, SCCC Bored, City School Bored, and SACC-TV 16 to the long list of Krat controlled boreds. This will all mean nothing if the sheeple awaken.

There are many positive signs. The School Budget in Scotia-Glenville was defeated 2 to 1. Sheeple have awoken in Scotia-Glenville. Their exploding tax bills were the alarm clock. There will be 3 contested seats there next year.

Rumors are flying that both Judy D and Karen Johnson will not seek re-election next year. Good! The Downtown Business leaders led by Erie Blvd. are fed up with the Krat ruined DSIC and will break off. Metrograft Ray can't even open a gin mill after flushing $3 million. The Gazetto is losing readers and influence.

SCHENECTADY COUNTY
GOP eyes two for sheriff run
Ex-city chief Moffett among those courted

BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter

Schenectady County Republicans are courting two former police officers to be their candidate to succeed longtime Sheriff Harry Buffardi, who has said he will resign to become a professor at Schenectady County Community College.
Republicans are courting Michael Moffett, an excity police chief and currently an investigator with the state Department of Health. Moffett challenged Buffardi in 2006, losing by 10,000 votes.
Republicans also said Tom Constantine, a retired Niskayuna police officer, would give them a strong ticket and help them capture seats from Democrats on the county Legislature next year. Constantine’s father, also Tom, is a former head of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and a former superintendent of the state police.
Neither Constantine nor Moffett were available for comment.
County Democrats said they are not worried about losing the sheriff’s seat, nor seats on the county Legislature. A Democrat has been sheriff for at least 18 years. In 2009, seven seats are in play on the county Legislature — six are held by Democrats and one by a Republican. Democrats currently have an 11-4 majority.
Buffardi, who has been sheriff for 10 years, said he will become a full-time assistant professor at Schenectady County Community College next year. He has not set a date for his resignation and is expected to begin teaching classes in criminal justice after Jan. 12. He has taught criminal justice part time at the college for 14 years, he said.
Once Buffardi resigns, Gov. David Paterson will set the date of a special election and will appoint an interim sheriff until then, local offi - cials said. If Buffardi resigns before Sept. 20, the election will be held in 2009; if later, then November 2010.
County Republican Chairman Tom Buchanan said Buffardi’s departure presents the party with an “overwhelming opportunity.”
If the election is held next year and Republicans are able to get a strong name to lead the ticket, they see the countywide sheriff’s race as winnable and also see an ability to come close if not overtake the Democrats on the county Legislature.
“You don’t get opportunities like this all the time,” Buchanan said.
County Democratic Committee Chairman Brian Quail said the party has started the process to fi nd a successor to Buffardi. “The committee will interview perspective candidates and ultimately make an endorsement for whatever special election the governor calls,” he said.
Quail said “There are a lot of people who have credentials” for the position. I am not going to speculate at this point because people who are interested will come forward.”
Quail said he remains confident a Democrat will retain the sheriff’s seat and that Democrats will also take the seat now held by Republican Joe Suhrada of Rotterdam. Suhrada’s term expires next year.
“While you can’t take anything for granted, our enrollment advantage is the highest ever,” Quail said. The Democratic enrollment went from 35 percent of the electorate in 2004 to 37 percent in 2008. Republican enrollment went from 33 percent to 30 percent during the same period. There are 35,854 Democrats versus 27,771 Republicans in the county, according to the county Board of Elections.
Still, Quail said, the sheriff’s race has the potential to be tight. “We have to run a stellar candidate whose credentials are beyond reproach. I believe our ................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....amp;EntityId=Ar01103

Even IF Suhrada lost his seat....he may become 'much more effective' out of the lion's den. He is informed and outspoken and knows the truth. And the one of the only voices left to fight 'for the people'. Perhaps he could take Buchannan's place and put some fire under the a**es of the reps.

Moffitt again? Find someone new and electable from Rotterdam or the Hilltowns. Another opportunity?

The Dems have every right to be arrogant given the collapse of the other side. Rumors hot and heavy that both Judy D and Karen J will not seek re-election. More opportunities....

Keep politics out of sheriff selection process

Re. Dec. 18 article, "Race is on for Sch'dy sheriff's job": Let us not let politics get into the decision to choose the next sheriff of Schenectady County.
Tim Bradt, with his many years in law enforcement, should be the only choice when it comes to replacing Sheriff [Harry] Buffardi. Tim is a Vietnam veteran and has worked in all phases of police work for the last 38 years. His record is of the highest quality.
Let us once choose a man who is qualified for the job, and leave politics out of it

ROTFLMAO........ It is an elected position!  Furthermore, this letter to the editor is basically politicing for a certain candidate.  Does anyone else see the irony of this ?
Tim Bradt?  Tim Bradt?  really?

NONE of them will be non-political. They are all too full of themselves.

Oh, the letter writer said that, is there a reason NOT to believe her? I always wondered if Mr. Bradt was a part time private dick. Does any one if he was? Maybe it is just a rumor. He used to eat at MalloSSis with the the capo of the famiglia himself and I always thought they used him for private dick service. Maybe I am wrong. Do you think he practices nudism too? I heard that around town, kind of cute, isn't it?

The letter writer is hilarious-typical garbage only the Gazetto would publish. The Krats will pick who they want to run the Sheriff's Department, just like the do every other County job. Too much patronage at stake to take this out of a smoke filled room. Look at Kosiur, and the PR guy both still "working" despite the will of the people and repeated editorials.

Public be damned, taxpayers be damned. By the way, BT is on to something. Mr. Suhrada, elected or not, would make a great GOP leader. He would at least fight for every seat. The white flag approach has brought about predictable results. Absolute Krat control.
