I went to the mall tonight and bought some Lands End clothes from Sears for my mom. The bill, before tax was $79.90. After tax,it was $83.10. They charged me a $3.20 (4%) "special tax". The line on my receipt that showed 8% was blank.

I also went to Limited Two, Macy's and Borders, where I was charged the full 8%. Is there a tax special going on that I don't know about?

Maybe their computers lost their programming for the sales tax after their power outage ... weirder things have happened.
