Does anyone know if snowplow trucks are required to obtain a permit in the city or towns of Schenectady?

It seems like anyone who can possibly put a plow on their vehicle, which does, but just barely, pass NYS inspection is doing it this year to make some extra income.  I know that heavy duty liability insurance is required for plowing commercial lots, but in years past, I've seen independent plows pushing snow into the streets, in front of neighbors, etc with little regard for others that have to shovel by hand.

It seems like it might actually be a GOOD thing to tax/permit plow operators based on set criteria (safety, experience, etc) that set blades down within the city or towns for profit. I was just reading a bit about it and a lot of guys seem to think they can get away with it and collect the $ under the table and get away without any liability insurance, but like before, have little regard for neighbors, already cleared streets, etc.

Thoughts?

Plow away and I hope the blades are attached to an American made vehicle......

I think enforcement would be nearly impossible, especially in D'burg.  72 square miles

True, I didn't think specifically of Duanesburg - but then again, if most anyone there plows the snow out of their driveway and across the street ... does it really matter?   Besides, yall get so much more snow out there than in the city, where else COULD you put it.

I was more thinking of the mess they make on urban streets and how it directly impacts neighbors, not cows

(Sorry Rene, I couldn't resist!)

PLEASE don't give the pols anymore taxing ideas!!!! PLEASE because you KNOW it will be just the small businessman who plows his own lot that will end up paying for the permits and the scofflaw types will be running free with no enforcement!

How about applying the 'cow fees' to the plows???? or a 'special' gas tax???? The fools will do something with it to grease their
momma's pans.......

I agree with GB. Don't give them anything else to tax!! IF the city took care of their roads better, snow from independent snow plowers wouldn't be such a problem.

I don't really see independent snow plowers a problem. Residents who snow blow their driveway, often blow it right in the roads. But in Rotterdam, who I believe has the best snow removal program anywhere, is around to move it away.
