It's like I said before, in the case of Mallozzi, they needed to be told that this was not a bake-off....it is politics which I recommend they stay out of! Mr. Suhrada speaks the 'truth'. Unfortunately, most of the sheeple are blind sided by all of the government, hand out programs by the dems. Not a one of those sheeple want to rely on themselves instead of the government. (our tax dollar) The sheeple have become just as greedy as our government. I think the only word they know is ENTITLEMENT!!!!

Political speech blanket shouldn’t cover lies

Re Dec. 4 article, "Judge dismisses defamation lawsuit": When is a lie not a lie? When Judge Vincent Reilly Jr. rules that our precious First Amendment guarantees the right to defame the name of political opponents with lies. He qualified this when he reasoned that it was acceptable to do so during the course of a political campaign.
County Legislator Joe Suhrada saw the ruling against the Mallozzi family as a victory for free speech. He stated that the "Constitution wasn't meant to protect polite speech..."
If a lie is told using polite speech or “rough-and-tumble” speech, the fact remains that a lie is still a lie.

The courts decision does not adress " the truth "- Joe can be a hot head sometimes- maybe call some one stupid or what ever- well thats fine- although refering to someone  " acting stupid " is better-

I respect Mr Shuradas rights to speak- it is absolutly necessary to have oposing viewpoints.  But you my friend would be, as you say sheeple- by calling anything JS says as  the Truth- that is a big word-

Mr. Suhrada may shoot from the hip at times. But Mr. Suhrada says the exact same things that 'we the people' think and say to ourselves or discuss over coffee. And remember, Mr. Suhrada is closer to the situations an perhaps knows more than 'we the people' do. IMHO that is!

Did you READ the opinion "Nobody"??? Nooooooooo, I am sure you didn't. You just have orders from the fat heart attack waiting to happen, or the pock faced one. Nobody, let me clue you since you are stuck on dumb. That decision said the FACTS were correct on Suhrada's account. The opinion LISTED all the oink oink fat cat Bobby and Christine MalloSSi got on YOUR dime, Nobody. someone will get a copy and will list it here soon including the GRANTS, THE HALF TAXES, THE INTEREST FREE LOANS, and then we see who lies? YOU or Suhrada. Also we will review the endless dumptrucks full of mulch that us town taxpayers had to deliver FOR FREE to the MalloSSis to thier under assessed mansions on the Mohawk.

In Colonie, Nobody, people lost their elected seats, and town workers were demoted for giving free construction spoils, and fill to the Colonie Gun Club. In Nobody's Rotterdam, it is glorified and accepted that connected fat cats like MalloSSis (the whole clan with the helicopter landing pad and all) get the freebies that YOU- Nobody- pay for. I think the MalloSSis ought to pay for their own tipping of dirt and fill. I also think they ought to stop with the illegal sewer hook up on the restaurant, they should come clean about the health violations at their place, the use of the name "Brown Derby" from the California company they grabbed it from, the never ending challenging of their already under- assessed property taxes (they HATE to pay their fair share, don't they) and many other little snippets of info on this squeaky clean bunch that you bid for, Nobody.

So hooray! the lie machine is in full force again!!!! Destroy Suhrada at all costs! Try it. You will loseeeeeeeeeeee again, because let's face it Nobody- you are a butt kiss for people with pinky rings and fat wallets, you don't care about taxpayers. This isn't Europe, Nobody, we still have a constitution here; someone should explain to you that you leave the brown shirt, the crowns, the family crest and all that phony euro-trash stuff home when you come over.

Some rich, powerful and connected people have no issue crossing the line all day and all night but HATE it when one little real nobody like Joe Suhrada has something to say about it! Wow!

oink oink Nobody, get to that trough...

BRAVO! BRAVO, GB! And it is like I stated before....Mr. Suhrada spent thousands of HIS dollars to pay for attorney fees just to protect and fight for US, THE TAXPAYERS!

It is somewhat humorous to watch TV and see how all of the corrupt, skimming politicians are being called on the carpet. But locally, it is almost politically incorrect to do the same. It is what it is, whether we like what we are hearing or not! IMHO!

The Brown Derby was a landmark restaurant in Los Angeles, California frequented by celebrities during the Golden Age of Hollywood. It was an example of novelty architecture, known for being physically shaped like a brown derby hat. It was the first restaurant to serve chiffon cake, a soon-to-be famous recipe invented by insurance salesman Harry Baker and later picked up by Betty Crocker. The Brown Derby on Vine Street was the home of hundreds of caricatures of celebrities. Many of these caricatures were drawn by Mr. Jack Lane between 1947 and 1985. Lane, who still lives in Woodland Hills, California, has written a book, A Gallery of Stars: The Story of the Hollywood Brown Derby Wall of Fame, describing his years as the resident caricaturist there.

L.A. Brown Derby LocationsA Hollywood movie entrepreneur decided to open a coffee shop on Wilshire Boulevard, inspired by the whimsical architecture then popular in Los Angeles and by the shape of the hat worn by visiting New York governor and the Democrat's 1928 presidential candidate Al Smith. Encouraged by the restaurant's success with L.A.'s movie colony, another Brown Derby was planned. On Valentine's Day 1929, The Hollywood Brown Derby opened in a building specially designed for Cecil B. DeMille near the corner of Hollywood and Vine. It soon attracted a sizeable following from the city's burgeoning movie industry. Stars received fan mail addressed simply to "The Brown Derby, Hollywood & Vine". For many years, the formidable gossip columnists, Louella Parsons and Hedda Hopper, both made The Brown Derby their 'semi-official' headquarters. Clark Gable proposed to Carole Lombard in booth #5 and she accepted. The concept of telephones at tableside was pioneered here.

In April 1985, the original Hollywood Brown Derby landmark restaurant suspended operation because of the need for earthquake reconstruction of its historic building. The Hollywood Brown Derby began its licensing program[1] in 1987 with an agreement with Walt Disney Company for a replica of The Hollywood Brown Derby at the new Disney's Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida. In 1990, Walt Disney Company entered into three additional agreements for Euro-Disney, Tokyo Disney and Disneyland in Anaheim, California. In 1996, a ten-year agreement was entered into with MGM Grand Hotel and Casino Las Vegas, Nevada; in 1998, the MGM Grand Detroit, Michigan temporary facility was added.

The single greatest legacy recipe of the Brown Derby is the Cobb Salad. It was invented by and named after Bob Cobb, one of the owners of the Brown Derby. According to Bob's wife Sally, Bob basically raided the fridge late one night at the restaurant and chopped up some left-overs for his dinner. Some of his Hollywood friends, including Jack Warner, Sid Grauman, Wilson Mizner, and Gene Fowler stopped by the restaurant that night and, curious about Bob's creation, joined him. They then began to ask for it on later visits, and the rest was history.

It[clarification needed] was named after the Brown Derby Restaurant located in Malverne, Long Island, New York, which operated as a popular vaudeville hang-out. It had been owned by Frank Britton Wenzel, who sold it to Rayman Murphy, who owned it since the 1960s, and gave up management before he died on December 21, 1999, and the brown derby was turned into "Cooking with Jazz" which was unsuccessful. This restaurant closed in 2001. The Brown Derby was then owned by Ray Murphy's children, Susan and Robert, and turned into an apartment building. Construction went from 2004 until 2007. The things left in the Brown Derby before it became an apartment were sold, given to their owner, and given to the Murphy family.

The first Brown Derby, also known as the "Little Hat", was opened in February 1926 across the street from the Ambassador Hotel. The Derby was often the site of afterparties following bashes at the Ambassador Hotel's Cocoanut Grove nightclub. This was the only Derby that was actually built in the shape of a hat. In 1937, it was moved one block up the street.

A second Brown Derby opened at 1628 Vine Street, near Hollywood and Vine on Valentine's Day, 1929. In 1942 MGM film star Ruth Hussey first met her talent agent husband Bob Longenecker at lunch there. Other Derbies were later built in Beverly Hills (across from the Beverly-Wilshire Hotel on Wilshire and Rodeo) and in East Hollywood (also known as Los Feliz) at Los Feliz Boulevard and Hillhurst. The Los Feliz Derby had a "car café" which emulated the then-new "drive-in" trend.

The Wilshire Boulevard Brown Derby todayThe Hollywood Derby closed in 1985, shortly followed by the original location's closure. The shell of the Brown Derby was restored and placed on top of the strip mall that took its spot at 3377 Wilshire Boulevard. It is now painted orange and home to Buzz.

The Los Feliz Derby is now a nightclub called The Derby. In the late 1990s, it was one of the centers of the resurgence of swing dancing, offering live swing dance bands seven nights a week and launching the careers of modern swing bands such as Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Johnny Crawford and his band often played there as well. Today, the Derby offers a variety of entertainment throughout the week, and swing dancing with live bands is still featured on Sunday nights and special occasions.

In June 2004, the Derby and adjacent lots were purchased by Hillhurst/Los Feliz LLC, a subsidiary of Adler Reality Investments Inc. The building faced demolition to make room for a condominium complex. An independent coalition called "Save The Derby" fought to prevent the Derby from being demolished by getting it recognized as an official historical landmark. On May 19, 2006, the Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously to designate the entire structure an official Historic Cultural Monument of the City of Los Angeles.

There is a re-created Hollywood Brown Derby at the Disney's Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

'Brown Derby' is also the name of a dessert served by the British fast food franchise Wimpy. It consisted of a ball of ice cream, and a warmed chocolate doughnut.

In "L. A. At Last", the first of the Hollywood episodes of I Love Lucy, Lucy (Lucille Ball), Ethel (Vivian Vance), and Fred (William Frawley) have lunch at the Brown Derby. During the misadventure, the trio dines in a booth neighbored by Eve Arden on one side and William Holden on the other. This leads to the famous disaster scene in which Lucy inadvertently causes a waiter to dump a plate of food on Holden. This is the same episode in which he later iconically lights the tip of her disguised nose on fire.

Neo-swing band Cherry Poppin' Daddies have a song titled "Brown Derby Jump" on their album Zoot Suit Riot.

In the book The Neddiad by Daniel Pinkwater, Neddie and his family move from Chicago to Hollywood soley to eat at The Brown Derby. The move leads to a series of adventures involving a jellybean, a sacred turtle, and a girl named Yggdrasil.

In 2008, restaurateur Robert Mallozzi purchased the rights to the restaurant and opened a Brown Derby in Albany, New York.

Didn't you hear he was being sued about that? Also, check it if you want, but the restaurant has an illegal sewer hook up that has lately been causing some problems for the owners of the new apartments over there on Curry road because malloSSi somehow won't  legalize the sewer district that he hooked into under his buddy Constantino years ago. This, like the 400,000 dollar INTEREST FREE TWENTY YEAR MORTGAGE AND THE LARGE GRANT FOR THE "FACADE" is all FACT. What is also fact is that Christine MalloSSI who recently went splitsville with hubby, ran as a pay back for the Savage crew, for the do-re-me her family suckled from Metroplex Ray. She was however, supposed to defeat the no-name Joe Suhrada hands down (he isn't even Italian I guess, which is a SIN in Rotterdam) but L-O-S-T... LOSERRRRRRRRRRRRR, just like that poster N-O-B-O-D-Y...

Now the whole brown-shirted and smelly clan, who apparently learned a few lessons from Benito M, decide they will bankrupt this guy. Well back room connections didn't win out, the law did. LOSERRRRRRRRRRRRR again. Now the word on the street is the Democrats, who ASSIGNED this cheap suck up lawyer named Paul Briggs( deputy town attorney for DEMOCRAT NISKY' ), who is an amateur at best, ARE APPEALING to a higher court!!!!! Maybe a few more canolis and they will win, ehh? Whatsmattaforyou SOMEBODY? You don't know deh law? Maybe ya gots some boys from Brooklyn wit deh brass knucks gonna make Suhrada squirm?

Nahhhhh, I don't THINK so!

The whole thing reminds me of a mob movie. You know,  the one where the wiseguys all kill each other and go to federal prison! The thuggish act and the false "coat of arms on the trucks" is wearing thin and remember, not ALL Rotterdamians are ITALIAN. A lot of them are sick of the "we OWN this town" act that the MalloSSis put on. Just SICK OF IT! And will prove it when she runs AGAIN! Like the letter Z that used to be in the name, she will finish LAST again, with NO experience, NO independence, NO willingness to stand up for taxpayers (especially since she sucked up so much of their cash already) and NO ability to handle ANY of the tough issues that being a house mom and staffer for taxin' Tonko can bring to her.

PS, Somebody, you really have sacrificed your credibility and independence on this one, and in case you are right, and Suhrada does go down in defeat, I would worry about him suing YOU, since I understand that the word on the street is that he is going to...sorry to ruin your Christmas. But I am sure you can get a party lawyer to handle the case for cheap...

Ok, so here's the thing....Perhaps the MalloSSI'S were benefiting from our tax dollar. Perhaps they should be paying us taxpayers back for the mulch they have received, free!  Perhaps the powers to be in Rotterdam are turning a blind eye to the sewer issue. Can what was done by past corrupt administrations be rectified by the present? And if the answer is 'yes', why isn't it?

Now about the $400,000 interest free, 20 year loan. I would believe that was an incentive to move out of Rotterdam and relocate to the great, beautiful area of downtown Broadway! (tic) Everyone could not figure that move out to save their lives. These are the issues we are all hoping that the Metroplex audit will reveal.

And now they are appealing to a 'higher court'? This appears to be personal vendetta against Suhrada. The court has already acknowledged that what Suhrada and Sherman were implicating was TRUE! They should just walk away with their head hung in shame and let it die it's own death. That is if they know what is good for them.

And it clearly appears that our 'local newspaper' won't touch this story with a ten foot pole. Perhaps the TU would like to have more expensive coverage, without the spin of course.

And again, like has been stated before...where is the reps support for Suhrada? It is like he is out there on his own. Where is Sherman in all of this? Where is Tommasone addressing this sewer issue in Rotterdam? We were lead to believe that government would be 'transparent' and that the old days of sweeping issues under the rug were gone!
