WASHINGTON - Former Secretary of State Colin Powell endorsed Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., for president on Sunday, criticizing his own Republican Party for what he called its narrow focus on irrelevant personal attacks over a serious approach to challenges he called unprecedented.

Powell, who for many years was considered the most likely candidate to become the first African-American president, said in an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he was not supporting Obama because of his race. He said he had watched both Obama and his Republican opponent, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, for many months and thought “either one of them would be a good president.”

But he said McCain’s choices in the last few weeks — especially his selection of Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska as his vice presidential running mate — had raised questions in his mind about McCain’s judgment.

...

Obama said in an interview airing Monday on NBC’s TODAY that he welcomed Powell’s support and looked forward to discussing what role, if any, Powell might have in an Obama administration should he be elected.

Here is what I can say for certain: He will have a role as one of my advisers.  He has already served in that function even before he endorsed me,” Obama told NBC’s Matt Lauer. “Whether he wants to take a formal role — whether there’s something that’s a good fit for him — I think is something that he and I would have to discuss.”

I'm not discrediting Colin Powell as a war hero, by any means. However, let us not forget, he's the one man that convinced the UN Security Council that we needed to invade Iraq because of their WMD's, mobile biological weapon labs and other "clear and convincing evidence".  You can't make this up folks, he ADMITTED it.

Is this a person we need as an advisor to a freshman senator with very little foreign policy experience?

Powell Admits False WMD Claim
posted by David Corn on 05/17/2004 @ 3:31pm

Appearing on  Meet the Press, Powell acknowledged--finally!--that he and the Bush administration misled the nation about the WMD threat posed by Iraq before the war. Specifically, he said that he was wrong when he appeared before the UN Security Council on February 5, 2003, and alleged that Iraq had developed mobile laboratories to produce biological weapons.

Powell told the Security Council: "One of the most worrisome things that emerges from the thick intelligence file we have on Iraq's biological weapons is the existence of mobile production facilities used to make biological agents. Let me take you inside that intelligence file and share with you what we know from eyewitness accounts. We have first-hand descriptions of biological weapons factories on wheels and on rails".

Right let's replace a moderate Republican with the most liberal Senator in the Nation? That's the ticket. Highest State taxes, highest County taxes and let's increase our Federal, Dividend, Corporate, and Death taxes? How about close the coffin for Schenectady County? Makes zero sense. As usual.

There is no party preference-----these folks all rub elbows with the same think tanks......anyone ever see those black and white pictures that
change/morph into another form when you stare at them for awhile......that is what politics are.......the parties just divide us.....2basic rules
of thought/ideologies......the management therein' always gets accomplished......when we have bandstanding generations is when we get into trouble
they just 'go for the ride'...........

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

I wonder why Mr. Powell didn't come out with this before? 2+ weeks before the election?

Are you serious Mobil??  The same people who attacked Powell in the past, for lying about WMD's to the UN Security Council (the Democrats), are now praising him on his clear sound judgement for his endorsement for Obama.  And the same people who defended Powell's argument(Republicans) of WMD's and a preemptive strike on Iraq, excused him because they said that our allies had the same faulty intelligence as the CIA.

Now two weeks before the presidential election, Democrats think Powell is an honorable man, and Republicans are painting him as a untrustworthy war mongering liar.

This is too much.  Are Americans that stupid??

No Americans aren't stupid, but most are totally uninformed about what's really going on in this country because they're too busy with their own lives to care. That's even worse than being stupid.

Along with being uniformed, stupid, too busy or whatever word we want to use, people are also sick and tired of this entire political arena being played out in our living rooms via TV (of course the radio and newspapers too). And it is played out day after day after day. And the people wait earnestly to see who will throw the next punch. And then we all cheer for our side on the sidelines.

Saturday Night Live had the largest audience when Sarah Palin was on, then they had experienced in 14 years. And the media is actually doing research to see if it helped or hurt her campaign. So what does that tell you?  Could anyone even imagine Eisenhower or JFK on an entertainment show? If memory serves me correctly, it was Nixon who first appeared on Laugh In...way back when.

It just goes to show that politics, as we know it, are-a-changin'!

We really need to concentrate on the FACTS and not how well people perform on a tv late night show. It is just plain nasty!
