Well I waited to see if anyone would notice over here about what the meaning of the day is and you all let me down indeed. But Columbus was one of the greatest and bravest of men ever who discovered America and no one wants nothing to do with him now which is sad. Another great man with a great name { the best name I think} is Americo Vespuci. So there you people can reflect a little about that over here. Thank you for letting me say this and having this day to be proud |

Did you check with "Ang" on that? I would have thought your favorite day would have been April 1 - kinda like your "patron saint" day ? |

First it must be pointed out that Columbus did not actually discover America because: A) He landed in Cuba and Mexico B) He was trying to get to India C) The Vikings found America first forever ago (didn’t you see Pathfinder?) D) Oh yeah, the Indians were already there. Most of America is under the impression that he sailed over, landed in Maryland, built the White House with his bare hands, and was BFFs with George Washington. |

Thank you so much Sombody. I read Sal's post earlier, I started typing my response, but then decided it was just way to frustrating to try and explain it to him. Im really scared to see what he posts about Thanksgiving. Pilgrims and Native Americans holding hands, playing games, sharing the cornacopia, and just really living together and appreciating each others culture. |

Columbus Day was just a day off from school for me. |

Funny, and I though Salvatore kept up on all these things. Why wait until Monday, the day that Columbus Day is observed to post something to this effect? Why not post it on the actual anniversary (the 12th), not on the observed day?
Also, it was not even North America that Christopher Columbus discovered. In fact, he didn't land here, he landed down on Hispaniola (where the Dominican Republic and Haiti are located).
There's also late evidence that Christopher Columbus actually brought something back from Hispaniola when he went back to share the news with his mother-land...syphilis, possibly causing 5 million deaths from the disease across all of Europe in the end.
Now, that's a conqueror for you. |

Kevin, do you really think that Sal has any idea on how to pronounce, let alone understand what syphilis is. |

Downplay Columbus day
Elevate hispanic month
Ignore Pulaski Day all together |
