Send a stinking resolution URGING the state?  Yeah, that will work (not).  Where is the fight?  A  resolution that the state will laugh at isn't going to help.  Where are the cuts?  These people on the leg are just plain dimwitted fools. For the county of Schenectady, which is the smallest county in the state, to send a resolution to the state of NY is the same as the town of Duanesburg sending a resolution to the the County Leg. indicating our displeasure over sex offenders being sent to our town.  The state will care about Schenectady County as much as Schenectady County cared about Duanesburg, NOT ONE LITTLE BIT incase anyone has forgotten.

Right Rene! Where's the anger?

Instead of handing out County pink slips they are handing out raises. Metrograft just handed Bethesda House a $450,000 windfall on top of the $4 million the City sheeple are paying to relocate this outfit. How does this improve County jobs or increase sales tax revenue? Metrograft Ray should be fired. The County Manager should be fired. Schenectady County is the most mismanaged County in the State. And nobody cares....

I read that phoney stuff Joe S sent out and I tell you I have never been so insulted in my life over here that he is sticking up for the richest of the rich and he doesnt want to cut our taxes 50 per cent. I am infurated. Also I see he is saying the chickens are coming home to roost so why is he so against America and us Schenectady county taxpayers? He needs to be impeached for these things he is saying and for not voting to up-hold this here law that is going to be passed. Why is he against getting the moeny from the state Why Mr. S? Vote the bum out now dont give him a chance to cost us more money after all this time. he is just like that bum Mertz and he makes us all ashamed. It is a good thing he wont get any indorsements nest year thank God.

Salvatore,

I actually commend Mr. Shurada for sharing this information with his constituents in Rotterdam.  Giving us insight to the workings of the County, and naming the names of those in the majority, who are responsible for the financial condition of the County.  Politics is a battle of ideas as it pertains to the solution of problems, and Joe was smart to exploit this opportunity to shine light on the ideas coming from the County Democrats.  We know that we can't depend on our local media to investigate and report the workings of our county government, so every bit of information that is made available to the people is important.

How you interpret Mr. Shurada's letter is a personal issue between you and your reading comprehension.

Appreciate the information Brad.

Sal if you want a 50% tax cut try calling the majority Democrats like Judy D and Tony, maybe they can help you instead of hiding.

Your constant nonsense attacks on Joe Suhrada, who is the constant voice of the taxpayers, against Metrograft fraud and DSS rip offs, are as stale as last weeks Pereca's bread. Get a grip. Only the majority County Democrats can pass a tax cut or approve long over due cuts.

I can not believe that you could defend this bum over here Cicero. This guy makes us all a bunch of jackasses and wastes our time and money. He doensst do his job ever and all he does is get argumentive with the demos over here and the other repubs like Ang. He isnt trying to work just critisize the demos and make fun of us. He should want to cut the taxes 50 per cent but he is against it now he even want to cut the taxes on the richest of the rich instead of us working people that are in the unions and that there. he came right out and said we should go an gamble the money to try to make a profit which may even be illegal and if the state investigated it or the F.B.I. then there might be charges for that proposal if he already hasnt done that over there. Did he do that? Is he proposing it as a law? I am waiting to know from him if he means it and if he doesnt mean it then why is he making a joke out of the work he should be doing with the other 12 legislators to cut the taxes. Joke. I have to say that he is hood -winking us when he doesnt back that law because he is sticking up for the rich and going against his district. Let the state pay for the stuff not us. Does anyone know if Surhada even pays taxes? I would like to know about that. Some one should investigate him now. I and everyone I know am outraged over here in Rotterdam

you are stale Ben sorry to say it you are stale. You sound like Bush and the other liberals who are ruining the country with the spending and taxes. Around here the people doing the work are the ones not making fun of the taxpayers and the workers and who are putting up good laws like this one to cut the taxes 50 per cent. we need that now not jokes

Exactly Rene! Just when we think we have heard it all! We need to govern ourselves through an elected  Board of Supervisors. I am not an elected official but I will help any way that I can to help make it happen.

Posting a Letter to the Editor that I submitted to the Daily Gazette and SchenectadyToday.com today.  I'm sure that there are those who will disagree with my expressed opinions.  Regardless, it is posted below for your consideration.  I would encourage all to contact their government representatives and the media to express your opinions.

Schenectady County Government Must “Cut Here, Cut Now”

I am writing in response to the article “Schenectady County Budget proposal cuts jobs, services.  Average homeowner would pay $125 more” that appeared in the October 13th edition of the Daily Gazette and a subsequent story that reported on legislation that was proposed by County Legislator Gary Hughes.

At the October Legislative meeting, Mr. Hughes proposed Resolution 164-08, that urges the Governor and the State Legislature to enact legislation that requires the state to assume the full cost for the non-federal share of the Medicaid Program and Resolution 165-08 that urges the Governor and the State Legislature to increase the income taxes paid by those earning over $1,000,000 rather than pass the cost of state programs to “seniors and working families” through property taxes.  At a time when the New York State government is faced with a reported 2009 budget deficit of $6.4B and Governor Paterson is calling for $500M in Medicaid cuts and decreases in local aid, Mr. Hughes and his fellow Legislators should be focused on identifying tangible and achievable cost savings at the county level that will close the 2009 budget deficit of $10M, not engaged in political grandstanding by proposing legislation that has no likelihood of being considered.

Hughes’ proposed Resolution 165-08 espouses the redistribution of wealth and plays on the class envy that some have for those who have achieved goals in life and accumulated more wealth than they.  The proposal is consistent with the philosophy of Communist Karl Marx who promulgated the slogan “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need”.  While it may elicit support from those who blame our nation’s woes on the rich, rather than on the corruption and ineptitude of government, it does nothing to address the fiscal challenges faced by county residents.

Schenectady County has the 12th highest county taxes in the nation.  Responsible elected officials must enact an austerity budget that reduces the size, the cost and the power of county government.     Our elected representatives must consider the elimination or consolidation of non-essential county services (e.g., Camp Kosiur), forging collaborative procurement agreements between the county and surrounding local municipalities and their vendors to purchase good and services at lower cost,  privatization of county facilities and services, and suspending capital improvement projects.

At a time when the county residents are struggling to keep their homes, pay for heating fuel and energy, and buy food for themselves and their families, the adoption of a county annual budget that results in a tax increase is irresponsible and exhibits a callous disregard for the constituents who our elected “leaders” were elected to serve.

Excellent Brad! Can we just copy  your letter and send it in? I don't think I can match yours.

Great letter Brad......you always put things so much more eloquently then I do.  I get ticked off and react, some times (ok all the time)  shooting off my mouth in a less eloquent fashion.

Brad, First of all, thanks for writing the letter.

Also, I would like to know if I can have the OK to go ahead and post it at my blog and send it along to others in case they don't read either this site or my blog.

And with the fact that Schenectady County is now DROPPED to being the 12th highest county taxes in the country, let's just remember why that is...because of re-evaluations.  Had the re-evaluations not been done over the past couple of years, I'm sure we would be CLIMBING the list, not falling down it.

The ranking only has to do with how much tax is paid per evaluated dollar.  We only fell on the list because our evaluated dollars have shot up with the recent spike in the real estate market (and won't come back down as it crashes).

The word "populated" in the third paragraph of my letter should be "promulgated".  Kevin, you have my permission to edit the letter to correct this word choice.  The Administrator of this forum is requested to make this edit on my behalf as I can no longer edit the post.  Thank you.
