JD is a former Republican and I guess her platform was good enough for u then when she wore that banner.
It was good enough until the Republican Club fiasco. She orchestrated this sale, keeping only certain reps close to her chest during this episode. It was politically backhanded and yet even after that...the dems welcomed her with open arms. What does that tell anyone about our local dems. I mean come on...it's basic common sense.

yes, I am familiar with her actions -- but that is an ethical violation, it does not mean her "platform" has changed. but maybe it has, I don't know. my point is that the reform group [a small group, i might add] has already made up its mind who it will and will not endorse -- even before winning the election, and isn;t there a whole committee to consider when deciding these types of things? me thinks the little group has let visions of power soak into their heads already.

Well, NPR, I must say that I have watched over the past couple of years and I am not impressed at all what Judy Dagostino has done being on the County Legislature.  It's been nothing but following along in the party line.  Also, Godlewski had never done anything while he was sitting on the Rotterdam Town Board except slow things down and ask questions that had to do with nothing.  I won't be voting for either of them on that basis alone.   Put that along with the fact that Judy Dagostino is an incumbent who is not speaking up against the majority, trying to make a difference for the residents that live in her district, Rotterdam, Princetown and Duanesburg, but she just votes with whatever everybody else does.  As far as her platform back when she was running as a Republican, I don't remember that.  In fact, I don't even remember how long ago it was.  I would appreciate a reminder on that.  If "as many of the 2700 will flee to other groups," then maybe they weren't True Conservatives in the first place.  Someone who will run from change are not what we need right now.  We need change in the party and we need it to bring back the party to what its name signifies...Conservative values.

If you ever go to a County Legislature meeting, you can tell what's happening.  The Republicans are out in the open before and after meetings, when you can find the Democrats, FOR THE MOST PART, scurry into the depths of their office, where they can't be reached.

In fact, think back to earlier this year.  If you remember, I brought up the possible conflict of interests of with Chairwoman Savage taking a job with the state writing grants for all the counties, and someone mentioned that it may be a conflict of interests, since she is both the person writing the grants and the Chairperson for the County.  It could lead to people thinking that she would only be writing them for the county, or on the other hand, disqualifying Schenectady County from getting any grants, considering the 2 positions she was holding. Anyways, when I brought up this possibility during the open floor time of the meeting, she said that it wasn't the time to talk about it and that she would talk to me about it after the meeting.  Well, I will tell you that I waited outside of the chambers waiting for Ms. Savage to come out of that office for some time.  She never did come out to speak to me that night, nor did she EVER ATTEMPT to contact me at any other time in regards to this issue.  I realize that she is a representative of Niskayuna and Glenville (District 3), but in the position she's in, she is to be held accountable by the ENTIRE county, not just those who live in her district.

And you have the idea stuck into your head in some way that Randy Pascarella and others don't already have their plan written for November and are just hoping they can get through unscathed this coming Tuesday?

The fact is that Brad and Kelly have worked quite hard over the past few months (even years, if you want MY OPINION) to bring about this change.  They feel confident because of the fact that they have felt the undercurrent and know how people in the county are feeling, regardless of what those currently in power think is the truth.

And as a final question, what makes you think this is such a "small group?"  It may be small in the number of people organizing it, but it's not necessarily that small in the number of people who want the change.

I don't know that much about this Kelly. Although there has been some rumblings about her. But personally...I really don't know her and never met her. But I have heard about Brad Littlefield through other people and through his effort to have an audit of the Metroplex. And his effort regarding the sex offender law last year. I have never heard an ill word about him. He has been described to me as an honest, straight shooting, passionate conserv. I have never met him either though.

cool, maybe he will become chair -- as they need someone in there with honesty and integrity and who does not have the baggage rhinesmith brings [i think it would fill a whole train].

and i mean no disrespect to her, it is just a cold hard fact --- if they want the party to succeed [should they win[ they will need someone other than her at the helm --- her enemies will rip her to shreds.

You may be correct Nickel cause as with any political party, the chair is key. They are the face of the party. Although I would suggest a change in the 'chairs' in some other local political parties around here.

Bumble,

I appreciate your kind words.  Though NPR characterized me in one of his posts as "self-righteous", I consider myself idealistic.  I expect our government to work for us, not for us to be servants to our government.

I have no ill will for those who are presently in control of the Conservative party.  I simply disagree that they have best represented the causes of Conservatism and those who subscribe to the ideology.  When attending the May 2008 party fundraiser/mixer, I was told by one of the senior members of the Conservative Party Executive Board that the party endorses liberal candidates so that it can obtain their support to enable the party to continue to exist.  My question in response was "to what end?".

It is time that the Conservative party be returned to those who will advance our cause.  The party, committee, and board should include those in law enforcement and public safety as traditional Conservatives support the military, law enforcement, etc.  The leadership of the party must, however, place the interests of our party before their own.

In speaking w/ hundreds of registered Conservative party members across Schenectady County during the past several months, I have heard of their displeasure with the numerous endorsements of liberal Democrats for public office by those who currently control the Schenectady County Conservative party.  Many of these Democrats also secured the endorsement of the Working Families Party whose platform is diametrically opposed to that of the Conservative ideology.  The party membership is, I believe, ready for a change in leadership and a change in priorities.

As for who will lead the party if our challenge is successful, that is for those who are elected to the committee to decide.  There will be many excellent candidates, passionate Conservatives, some of whom presently sit on the committee.  Several, including a few retired law enforcement officers, are well known as true conservatives and respected our community.

To NPR, Papa, and Sal, I sincerely wish you and your slate of candidates good luck in this race.  It is, of course, for the people who we will represent to decide the outcome.  I will accept their decision, whatever it may be.

nicely put --- good luck to you and your peeps.

i have no horse in this race, btw.... i am just an observer of life, a defender of liberty and a seeker of happiness.

the term self-righteous, btw, refers to your position that u seem to know what is best for the conservative party in this county -- Your discussions may indicate a dissatisfaction among a minority of the rank and file. my guess is you targeted certain conservatives for your petition efforts, knowing they would support you.

u probably reached, what, 10 percent of the 2700 registered conservatives? what of the remainder? how do they feel? -- We shall find out Tuesday. That is the real test of your efforts and especially thereafter.

--- u have pulled the train to the crest of the hill; you have yet to reach the top and have a larger challenge steering it down a slippery hill [forgive the metaphor].

Thank you NPR.  For clarification, the candidates who are running among the slate with which I am associated are not my "peeps".  I know some of them.  Others, I have never met.

I hope that in the future, you and I may meet and find ourselves working toward a common
and principled cause.

But, for now, there is work to be done ...
