I read Carl Strock every time he is published. A majority of the time, we are diametrically opposed. Once in a blue moon, we are on the same page. The Aug. 26 column [“Obama could undermine race grievance”] was one of those “blue moon” days. Carl is correct in stating that Mr. Obama is no more black than he is white. He could have pointed out that the most correct term, if you must point out he is anything other than a plain old American person, is mulatto. Mr. Obama’s father was black and his mother was white. That’s a mulatto. All this would be a moot point if we stopped hyphenating people. If you feel you must hyphenate a person and they were born here, then it should be American-German, American-Irish, American-Italian, American-African, etc. We are Americans first! DONALD A. I was under the impression that if a person was born to immigrant(s), they were XXXXXX - American (I think that's first generation?) If they are 2nd gen. they are considered American - XXXXXXX. Can anyone confirm if they've heard this?
