Law ends nurses’ mandatory overtime ALBANY — Gov. David Paterson has signed legislation to end most instances of mandatory overtime for nurses. Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther, a Democrat who represents Orange and Sullivan counties, says the law is intended to prevent health care providers from forcing nurses to work long hours. Advocates say mandatory overtime drives nurses out of the field and endangers patients cared for by tired nurses. The bill would allow for mandatory overtime in the case of a major disaster or emergency, or if a nurse was in the middle of an ongoing medical procedure. Nurses can still work overtime voluntarily.
here's the thing--society assumes that because most nurses (99%) are women that it's okay and 'they like to work all those hours, they are the caregivers and they are made for that'....no matter what the pay return is.....even women believe this.....I agree that women are made different than men but the $$ still needs to reflect the importance of the job performed....whether at GE or a nursing home.....we reap what we sow.....
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
STOP BEING GOOD DEMOCRATS---STOP BEING GOOD REPUBLICANS--START BEING GOOD AMERICANS
Women ARE the better caregivers! And they should be proud of it!
