Pt 2 - Here Comes the Sunby Mike Church - Denier in Chief
In Pt I of "Global Cooling for Dummies" we learned that Earth’s orbit is wacky and anything but circular. The wild swinging of our planet some two million miles further further out into space than during a circular orbit combined with the exaggerated tilt of the Earth’s axis accounts for most of our Ice Ages. (figures i, ii, iii and iv)
There is another equally natural phenomenon that wreaks havoc on our Eden. It is called the Sun and like Earth, it also has wild mood swings. We can measure these swings in the number and intensity of sunspots. The Sun has a cycle lasting 11 years long (though there are anomalies).
Men began looking at the sun and recording what they saw ages ago. Serious telescopic recordings began with Galileo Galilei in 1610. During the time of 1645 to 1715 very few sunspots were observed. Coincidentally, the Earth cooled rapidly and sharply in what we know today as “
The Little Ice Age”. The MMCGW crowd has invested a great amount of time and energy to paint this period as a fluke that has no bearing on today as if Earth just decided to enter into a menopause because
they started their crusade.
"The Warmers" have even gone to the extreme of insulting the reliability of written observations during this time i.e. no computers run by NASA and the U.N. to record the results, the results must be skewed or flawed. I have discovered that this is a dubious claim at best as one of the “astronomers” making the observations was none other than Giovani Domenico Cassini

Hevelius’s sunspot counts were taken from 1642 - 1679 and are meticulously noted and appear consistent with Cassini’s (they worked together for a while at the Observatoire de Paris). note the MMCGW plug at the end of NASA's description!) the period of little solar activity named for astronomer Edmund Walter Maunder who graphed out the 11 year sunspot cycle.
Maunder, long before James Hansen, Gore, Boxer, Lieberman, McCain and Warner came along, deduced that solar activity was having a dramatic effect on Earth’s climate. Maunder’s work, like the Founding Father’s view of Limited Self Government, is mocked... “how can we take this 18th Century, un-evolved Barbarian’s work [Maunder’s] seriously” the Warmer’s huff and puff? How can we not take it seriously?
Prolonged lack of sunspot activity spells climate disaster for this planet. D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R. You may be asking how, why!? would the sun play these dirty tricks on 20th century recyclers who have saved countless owls and snail darters. Figure VI from David Archibald's "Failure to Warm" paper"At its simplest, the relationship between the solar magnetic field strength and the Earth’s climate is this: lower magnetic field strength means few sunspots, fewer sunspots means less solar wind, less solar wind means more galactic cosmic rays, more galactic cosmic rays means more low level cloud formation, more low level clouds means more sunlight reflected back into space, which in turn means less heating of the Earth’s surface and atmosphere.”The Cosmic Ray component of Archibald’s Theory is sound and has been borne out in similar experiments/studies such as “Cosmic Rays and Climate” by Dr. Jasper Kirby, 26 MArch, 2008 (read the study here). Is this sinking in like a $300 million dollar ad with Nancy “Stretch Face” Pelosi and Wannabe Al Gorian Newt Gingrich? “Mike this is way too simple and makes way too much sense. This CAN’T be the answer. I thought you would say that. Here again is Dr. Archibald to speak Cro-Magnon to you.
“In theological terms, the global warming belief system is a reversion to animism. It is like the Old Testament story of Moses going out into the desert and coming back to find the Israelites worshipping a golden calf. We on the rational side of science know to worship a higher god – the Sun. I, for one, examine its auguries on a daily basis, specifically looking for the first sunspot of Solar Cycle 24.... As at the date of this Annual General Meeting, no such sunspot has been seen, which means that the month of solar minimum will be in October 2008, or later. My own estimate is that the month of solar minimum will be July 2009.

(Figure VII) means that the world will be 1.4 thousands of a degree cooler during that cycle. That doesn’t sound like much, but days become weeks, which run into months, and then years, and each year of delay is good for a half degree decline in temperature. If you are expecting three years of delay, as I am, that amounts to one and a half degrees. For we few, we happy few of the Lavoisier Society, our immediate thought is of how we are going to adjust to longer ski seasons. Less fortunate people will be spending more time staring out through frosty windows onto the barren wastelands of their frozen fields, wondering when Spring will come.”

"All leading climate models forecast that as the atmosphere warms there should be an increase in high altitude cirrus clouds, which would amplify any warming caused by manmade greenhouse gases," he said. "That amplification is a positive feedback. What we found in month-to-month fluctuations of the tropical climate system was a strongly negative feedback. As the tropical atmosphere warms, cirrus clouds decrease. That allows more infrared heat to escape from the atmosphere to outer space." -Roy Spencer, 9 August, 2007Let us recap what we have learned here in Pt. ii. The Sun has been driving climate since climate began and man has observed this since 1610. This Solar Activity drives cloud formation which continues the Solar Forcing effects. A Quiet Sun is a COOL Sun and this means a colder Earth. Combine this with what we learned in PT 1 and you should now begin to see the great climate wheels at work in terms so clear and plain you have to wonder why educated men insist that we simply cannot know this to be true.
In Pt. 3, we will all run our cars an hour extra per day, hyper-ventilate and only eat fruits flown into our markets by Concorde as we worship the gas that makes possible all life on Earth: CO2.
