SCHENECTADY — Gazette Publisher John E.N. Hume III has named Judith Patrick the paper's managing editor, effective May 30.

Patrick succeeds managing editor Thomas Woodman, who is leaving the paper to become publisher of the Adirondack Explorer.

Patrick, 52, has been day city editor since 2006. Since starting at The Gazette in 1982, she has also been an assistant city editor, an arts writer, a Sunday writer, and a reporter in the Amsterdam, Mechanicville, Ballston Spa and Saratoga Springs bureaus. A 1978 graduate of SUNY-Albany, she previously worked as a reporter at The Recorder in Amsterdam.

“I am excited about the opportunity to lead a wonderful news organization that has so long been a part of my life,” she said. “I intend to work hard to continue The Gazette tradition of serving our readers in our local communities.”
